she needs to get over this guy already
to be fair, its her first album. she prolly is over that guy
Her big vocals are a big part of her appeal, I don’t know why the songwriting talk overshadows that
She kinda has a similar appeal as Adele just done in a Taylor-esque way (obviously doesn’t sound like Adele but still).
I hear Billie ALL over this too
I can already tell I will have her as a muted word on Twitter within the next 2 years because of her stans
deja vu been on constant repeat
I’m glad you like it too!!! That shouty part during the bridge is so good
I know you get da ja vuuuu
This is nice for what it is as a teen heartbreak pop album
peeping now based off this
I’m not really into it
It’s not a disappointment in terms of the singles and it’s probably on me for hoping for more but it really fails to present any case of her being anything beyond a flavor of the year pop star
She’s really not a great writer yet, she’s not bad at all but a track like brutal is so painfully overt. She wears her influences on her sleeve (lorde, Taylor, I hear a lot of phoebe bridgers too) but is very clearly not in the same league yet. I do not care whatsoever about the break up s*** and that is almost the ONLY dimension this album has. That’s not a subject that it’s easy to present anything original in given how common it is and that’s a trap this album constantly falls into. Brutal is one of the worst songs on here but I can at least respect the fact that it’s not just a formulaic love song writing wise compared to most of this album. Gotta give some credit to hope ur ok too it’s kinda generic but there’s some good lines there and it’s a nice switch
Production is very so so to me. Again not bad by any means but aside from a couple moments it doesn’t feel like it’s anything beyond just a fine pop records production.. Daniel Nigro is a good producer but it’s just so f***ing risk averse lol and I know it’s to be expected when they’re trying to break her as a popstar and she’s a Disney girl but cmon at least Selena Gomez had some unique s*** early on like Love you like a love song. Best production is jealousy jealousy probably which is unsurprisingly one of the only songs that Nigro didn’t solely produce
She’s a great singer, she’s clearly talented, there’s flashes of not just being a Disney pop star but as a whole I was hoping for a lot more from this after drivers license (which I didn’t think was super super special but is definitely one of if not the best song here)
I’ll probably listen some more cause it’s a high budget pop album so it’s catchy but I don’t see it having much room to grow
Favorite songs: drivers license, jealousy jealousy, good 4 u
Worst songs: traitor, brutal (I respect what it tried to do though)
@Childhood i know you wanted to talk about it where you sitting with it
Great album, every song hits except brutal
I love brutal, what didn’t you like about it?

I have to say I agree with a lot of what you said tbh. Like this album is NOT bad at all, but I think it just take so much for a debut Female Pop album to impress after a Pure Heroine or even a Billie.
This project clearly has its own place, and I honestly think a lot of it is my own taste and like I was saying with these debuts and how they need to sort of “reinvent the wheel”, but nothing on here really STUCK outside of the singles which all really are good in the context of the album. Driver’s License sounds soooo good on here like you said it’s probably the best song.
I’m not nearly as invested in the songwriting on here as I’m probably supposed to be lol. Some of the phrasing feels really…. unsubtle if you know what I mean. It’s clearly devastating and all, but… idk it’s missing a little bit of that push.
I have a lot more I could go on about whether it be the obvious influences on here or the production which is too scattered in sound and traditionalist for its own good (but that’s really a whole other convo), but I leave this album upon first listen thinking that the potential is clearly there. I’m definitely gonna relisten though.
I like brutal but for the most part everything after is bland, generic ballads, I kinda wanna like her but she’s not giving anything interesting 🤷♀️
Also the album is shockingly short.
