Once I heard this in my student union club I was like yep, he’s crossed over to radio for sure
funny cause this song was a mainstream breakthrough.
a song like that had never been picked up by radio and was a first #1 hit with that sound lmao

Yeah it was very strange but at the same time it was almost perfect for the club because of the drop

yeah i can agree with that
I dare to say that The Hills, Royals and Locked Out Of Heaven highkey caused an change in todays pop music
They opened the door to so much change of sounds
This marks the beginning of his sellout
Earned It or I think the Ariana song
Earned It or I think the Ariana song
I thought this one came first, but yeah this or earned it
I thought this one came first, but yeah this or earned it
I think this did come first but I don't think this is a sellout song at all
Probably his best single
After Hours
Kiss Land
The Hills
All amazing and pretty close though
I think this did come first but I don't think this is a sellout song at all
It's not, but it's like the last song before he sold out completely I think

Oh then I agree for sure
It's not, but it's like the last song before he sold out completely I think
please define selling out to me headass
Except Frank There's Not a single artist out there who has the guts/ vision to release music of this calibre and dominate the pop culture like he did with this track
And Abel had to jump many hoops to release it, cause Republic didn't approve it as a song worthy to be released. Luckily, Lipman (Republic CEO), who happened to like dark-sounding stuff, intervened.
Abel has too much potential to remain under a label, and not go independent. If it wasn't for Republic, maybe we would have gotten that 2014 "super-drugged-out Nirvana vibe" scrapped album with Doc. Post 2013 Abel has given me the impression that he's easily amused.
I've noticed that many collaborators of his say often in interviews that Abel is a workaholic, always recording. He's not dropping as frequently as a workaholic would. So I wonder how many dark projects are held back cause they're not the label's "money-making" standarts. And I wonder why he's still so goddamn stupid to remain under a label, it doesn't make sense to be artistically constrained, neither financially doesn't make sense, cause major artists under a label make at most 15% of the profit of their own work. These are probably his best years.
/Rant off
Happy 5th anniv. to one of the only few proper cases where he balanced the "dark"/the sound his fans fell in love with, with the commercial, and in a way evolved. Sadly in his 5+ year career as a superstar I can probably count with one hand all his proper songs where he achieved this.
