talktohaniAnd Abel had to jump many hoops to release it, cause Republic didn't approve it as a song worthy to be released. Luckily, Lipman (Republic CEO), who happened to like dark-sounding stuff, intervened.
Abel has too much potential to remain under a label, and not go independent. If it wasn't for Republic, maybe we would have gotten that 2014 "super-drugged-out Nirvana vibe" scrapped album with Doc. Post 2013 Abel has given me the impression that he's easily amused.
I've noticed that many collaborators of his say often in interviews that Abel is a workaholic, always recording. He's not dropping as frequently as a workaholic would. So I wonder how many dark projects are held back cause they're not the label's "money-making" standarts. And I wonder why he's still so goddamn stupid to remain under a label, it doesn't make sense to be artistically constrained, neither financially doesn't make sense, cause major artists under a label make at most 15% of the profit of their own work. These are probably his best years.

Happy 5th anniv. to one of the only few proper cases where he balanced the "dark"/the sound his fans fell in love with, with the commercial, and in a way evolved. Sadly in his 5+ year career as a superstar I can probably count with one hand all his proper songs where he achieved this.
