Mariah/Mary/R. Kelly/Usher/etc have classics spanning 20~ years.
Brandy don't even got classics past the first 2 albums, and Aaliyah died way too early on before she got anywhere near legends discussion.
I think they're both moreso icons.

She barely had 3 albums before she died. Nobody in 2001 would've considered her a legend off of what she released up til then. Just because she died doesn't suddenly mean what she did was now legendary.
