Joining the crew usually requires a character to have some sort of character within a broader story arc where they’re at the center of it. The arc is normally what makes them decide to join Luffy. From Yamato’s first appearance that’s what they’ve wanted, that’s totally different from every other crew member besides Brook but that was clearly played as a gag. He’s an exception to this. If Yamato joins it’s just lazy writing. I’d be more interested if they end up joining Law or Kidd or even going out on their own. At least then they’ve decided to find themselves a different way and not continue cosplaying as a dead revolutionary.

That arc should have happened in Wano. Them joining the crew is totally unearned. Even Carrot made more sense.

She's idolized and coped as Oden since she was a child I don't think that's the kind of thing that can be fixed in one arc, and I feel Oda's pretty much hinting that her sailing with the crew will give her growth bit by bit

You don't gotta agree with Oda's writing there, but I don't have any issue with it personally

Zoro still hasn’t had a proper one since introduction, was hoping for it at Wano but idk when it’ll be now

Nami had hers in Arlong Park

Sanji JUST got his on WCI after nearly 2 decades

Usopp had one on Water 7 but i’m also hopeful for something to happen with him in Elbaph

Chopper kinda had his when he joined

Robin had hers in Enies Lobby

Brook hasn’t had a proper one since introduction, but we’ll likely see it at the Laboon reunion

Jimbei hasn’t had a proper one yet, unless you count the various backstory we’ve seen of him throughout

so yea, it wouldn’t be so abnormal for Big Mato to not get an arc focusing on him yet

I think you’re being a bit reductive with what a character arc means because all of them had major development before they joined. I hate to use a video as reference, but this breaks down what I’m saying pretty well. Please ignore the clickbait thumbnail. The arguments about character arcs are what’s important.

Even his biggest haters admit that his actual a***ysis of Oda’s writing, themes and story is excellent. He’s one of the only people in that community who’s actually critical of the material in a nuanced way and makes compelling arguments.

Luffy was literally asking trees in Triller Bark to join, so there’s no reason for him to reject Big Mato

He ain’t WOAT. His predictions are just hit or miss. His best content is just him a***yzing arcs like Marineford. He’s got really good videos just discussing the brilliance of what’s already been written, he just misses the mark on figuring out what will happen next.
