He’s old though and the running theme is that age catches up to all the legends. It’s kinda an odd bluff when you think about it, like the only people aware of this drop off in strength are old lol
So it feels like that should be something that’s kinda common sense. Not to say they aren’t strong, but they are certainly beatable if your one of the top dogs of the world.
Like it was Blackbeard AND his crew versus one aging Raleigh

Between the prospect of losing two of his captains and dealing with Rayleigh (which really means dealing with Boa too cause even though Rayleigh's old he's going to put in enough work to allow Boa to cook too and BB already recognized her as formidable) it makes sense that he'd dip

Yeah even if he could murk Boa on the spot between everything else you said and the prospect of losing two captains, that just seems like a prime cut your losses situation even outside of BB's character
Plus Koby for sure has a high ass bounty so he's going to cash out + get in the room with some other heavy hitters at Cross Guild to scheme up something else

Teach is all about working smarter, not harder. Rayleigh there giving problems, with his crew already out of commission, throw in Boa, and Koby, and those baby Lunarians and yeah it probably was a mix of the two. He's not gonna go into a situation where he perceives even 1% worth of risk, but he also chaotic and snatched up Koby cause he came up with something on the spot
