The only explanation though based off chapter 1009 is his haki wasn’t strong enough because strong haki counters DF abilities.

The basics of haki was laid out pretty good in the first half but the inner workings was definitely an afterthought. Armament pre time skip looks silly af being invincible.

doflamingo didn’t need to alert anyone about the coup attempt, as soon as they travelled from the past kanjuro sent some messenger birds to orochi. That’s how doflamingo knew who kinemon was, he was notified not the other way around.
