Yeah, I get what you're saying but it really depends on the film itself tho. Green Book was a feel good crowdpleaser with surface level race politics labeling itself as "important", if that's not Oscar bait then I don't know what is lol (reason why I had it as a favorite last year). You have to know the crowd (academy), they love going for films that make them feel better about themselves, so if Little Women or Bombshell fit those criterias then yea, that's two birds one stone. Right now that flick is OUATIH tho (not saying it's my pick)

OUATIH I feel is too white male dominated for the new Academy. And even though it is probably relatable for the older group of academy voters, the recent influx of younger voters will probably not put that movie up as high as the others.

The past 3-4 BP winners have been far more straight forward, surface level SJW feats ranging from Shape of Water to Moonlight to Green Book

Yeah, while OUATIH & Irishman are a sure bet with the older crowd this new class of voters has gotten it way trickier to pin down a BP. This is why a film like Parasite could have a shot in winning this year, while Bombshell and Little Women might win over a specific group... they're quite f***ing white too (and female driven) at the end of the day lol that's where Parasite could come in.

Man, this really is a competitive year tho

I think parasite will get nominated but I feel that older crowd is probably going to keep it from winning since there is still a stigma towards subtitles

I mean academy loves Cuaron and Roma lost lol

Tom Hanks might get a nod, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood the kind of movie the Academy adores

  • Dec 2, 2019

    predictions:

-one of the Adams (Sandler or Driver) wins Best Actor
-Parasite wins Best Foreign, possibly Best Original Screenplay
    -Midsommar gets a nod
    -ScarJo for Best Actress
    -OUATIH gets shafted hard

I’ve said it before but they really need to tighten up the actual award show. I feel like every year they try to make it this big overblown spectacle. They really should cut it down to like 2 hours and just give out the damn awards. That’s why everyone’s there and that’s why everyone’s watching

  • Dec 17, 2019

think parasite might be the one to break flf barriers and take best pic

support for the movie is too damn strong across the board, more than roma
