Need a thread to talk about black twitter, and their new hate for Daniel Kaluuya. Which leads to a bigger conversation of british actors taking american actors "jobs/roles".

Feel like best pic might be parasite just cus the academy will run w the narrative of giving the first best pic Oscar to a foreign movie (my favorite movie was beach bum so no shot of that lmfao)

Best male lead performance needs to be Shia for Honey Boy

Best supporting needs to be Brad in OUATIH

Best female lead needs to be Renee Zellweger for Judy or Elizabeth Moss for Her Smell

    Best cinematography Lighthouse

Best original screenplay Upon a Time

Sooooo curious to see if joker gets a single nom

I'd be extremely surprised if Joaquin doesn't get a nod at least.

Once Upon A Time is getting a hard push rn by the industry, I can see it winning best picture tbh.

It’s not a Netflix/streaming produced movie, made a ton of money at the box office and has the nostalgia aspect for Hollywood voters. JoJo Rabbit can be a sleeper too

  • Dec 2, 2019

really hope Pesci gets love too, should be be a shoe in for a best supporting actor nod

First of all is the best actor category pretty much down to a two man race between Phoenix & Driver, secondly Shia's going for best supporting actor from what I recall and even there are there great competition ahead, the Pitt's, Pacino's & Hanks'. If he even get's recognized would it be a surprise imo and should be considered a win alone for this year has a lot going for it, a lot of big industry names and films in the same field reason why 'artsy' films like Lighthouse won't do much if anything at the Oscars this year.

No way Academy gives it to a white male lead film

All the frontrunners are "white male lead" tho, with Marriage Story & Parasite being the exception lol

Keep in mind that the “front runners” are what critics been gassing up. Nobody thought Green Book was a front runner until the night of the Oscars

With a more diverse academy, it’s going to lead to them picking a SJW bait film, and I can see some s*** like Bombshell or Little Women win

that's such an Oscars thing to do

  • Dec 2, 2019

Could definitely see Parasite getting some underserved wins.
Best actor is Joaquin's most likely, could see Leo sneaking it in.
Dafoe has a big shot at supporting.
Haven't seen the movie but I could see Mendes getting best director and/or movie winning in Cinematography.
    Foreign is Parasite's.
Tarantino has a shot at original screenplay.

Yeah, I get what you're saying but it really depends on the film itself tho. Green Book was a feel good crowdpleaser with surface level race politics labeling itself as "important", if that's not Oscar bait then I don't know what is lol (reason why I had it as a favorite last year). You have to know the crowd (academy), they love going for films that make them feel better about themselves, so if Little Women or Bombshell fit those criterias then yea, that's two birds one stone. Right now that flick is OUATIH tho (not saying it's my pick)
