    not his master’s being sold

    Yeah but still...

  • Sep 20, 2022

This could be all that they’re saying tho…testing waters

Especially with someone like Kanye who constantly calculates his value. Wouldn’t really know how much his publishing asset is worth without seeing how much a potential buyer is actually willing to pay. They’re not really saying the goal is to sell

There’s been so many deals over the last year for catalogs and likely several times as many artists checking with their team to test the market. Always felt like there’s something going on fans wouldn’t understand rn

    Yeah but still...

    Lol read the article.

At $5 million in annual income, a 35 times multiple suggests a $175 million valuation. While most superstar songwriters nowadays often seek a 30-times multiple, that’s rarely, if ever, been reached with even the highest-profile deals. The Bob Dylan publishing catalog, for example, is said to have gone to UMG for a 28 to 29 times multiple. Last year, sources told Billboard that some members in the Billy Joel camp were also testing the market to see what kind of valuation his catalog would fetch; it was unclear if Joel himself was on board with the play to test the waters. The Joel camp started out with even higher hopes before coming down to seeking a 35 times valuation. But potential suitors found that multiple too rich for their appetite, and no deal progressed to the point at which due diligence was performed, sources indicated.

That sounds like terrible advice By your valuations, he can make 125 now or 140 in 7 years… so why would he lol

How did Wayne sell his masters for? Why does that feel insultingly low for Kanye?

Wayne sold his masters for $100m

    Not really

if he can use those 175 mil to open his own factories like he said he would that would be a much better use of that money

  • Sep 20, 2022

    He does not have “billions”

people really still think a billionaire has billions in the bank

  • Sep 20, 2022

Imagine all those people who spent thousands just to get Ye mumble demos over the years.

They could've just saved their money and bought his actual publishing 😂

    GoodbyeCarl

What does that mean then? Like he can't rerecord new music with those lyrics like Taylor Swift?

yeah, he’d need the authorization of the new owner of his publishing if he wanted to re-record his albums like Taylor Swift did

publishing gives you royalties whenever your song is synced (like it plays on TV/radio/movie trailers/ads, etc.)

since Ye’s music plays a lot in trailers (i mean Murder to Excellence is in two Black Adams trailers if i’m not mistaken), i think it’s not worth it to sell his publishing since it still gives him money passively

however, like someone said, if he needs 175 million tobuy factories and basically restart from scratch his Yeezy empire, he might need the 175 mill upfront to flip it in 200 mill/year in like 5 years

  • Sep 20, 2022

    saw this coming

kanye has to be insanely overextended

  • Sep 20, 2022
    Cody

    that seems really low

    how?

all his music has like 12 writers per song and very few of them are without samples

there's not a lot of value there publishing wise

i bet it's much less than this number
