Why is this film the most successful despite there being other good Korean films?
Maybe this was funded more?
Maybe Boon Jong Ho had the right connections?
Maybe this is the first Korean film that actually bothered to spend money to market in America?
Maybe this particular film appeals to a western audience more for some reason?
I don’t know.
There are a million reasons why one good film can blow up but not another good film.
Either way, every person along it’s journey saw it & thought it was a masterpiece worth a push, otherwise it would not have recieved this acclaim.
So yes, it’s accessible because it’s good, not the other way around.
Started with winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Momentum built from WOM from critics, then WOM from audiences

Ehhhhh I love the actors from the film but I don’t like forced or janky sequels especially forcing a well known actor in there
people be underestimating how difficult it is to make a smart and tonally complex thriller. For it to be as accessible as it is is incredible.

I don’t support this either but it’s happening regardless
