Yo I wonder what happen to the original family that lived in the house. Do y’all think it was an on going cycle where the original housekeeper finessed her and her family into having jobs and then s\*\*\* went south and the guy hid in the basement for years and then here comes along this new family? F\*\*\* it’s hard for me to explain what I mean with not knowing their names

bro how my mans survive that blow to the head, twice?! All that blood I thought he was for sure dead. And did they make the rich family act ditzy on purpose, it seemed unrealistic when the dad lifted the dead body to get his keys, bruh was plugging his nose like “ewww”.....even the way the daughter was piggy backing the poor sons body. I’m sure this all goes towards the overall message but I sensed a lack of reality, it didn’t seem as if a killer didn’t just try and murder the staff and ruin they sons bday

housekeeper said architect moved to paris, don't see any reason to not believe that. when the architect sold the house to the current family he didnt tell them about the hidden space because he was "ashamed" so housekeeper hid her husband there to avoid loan sharks

Word. still crazy how s\*\*\* came full circle and the poor dad ended up living down there now.

    13. Shoplifters
    14. Django
    15. Nightcrawler
    16. Fruitvale station

Moonlight didn’t do much for me, although I recognize it’s greatness for sure.

Nightcrawler, OUATIH, get out, S2BY, django, social all good but not enough to make my list. Been dying to see shoplifters tho

the movies I would remove are suspiria, mother, house jack built, hateful eight, interstellar, Inception, revenant.....I can’t speak on Dunkirk and few the foreign films cus I haven’t seen yet.

Not all those movies are “meh”....but I just don’t personally see how they make it on top of the all time list for this decade. To me each movie should be a masterpiece or close.

Good for you tho ur prolly the only person I know that would rate hateful eight that high, most people have it as one of QT’s worse So that’s cool to see a unique opinion

And house jack bought and suspiria were lowkey trash to me, they both started out strong but then took a really weird turn

Mother was good I liked it, just not strong enough to me to be top 20. I really like the direction and connectivity to the Bible. But something was missing

Revenant to me is only hyped cus Leo won an Oscar for it. But we all know the Oscars owed him for all the times he was snubbed. He shoulda got it for Wolf of Wall Street.

But Parasite, Birdman, Master, her and Whiplash I 100% agree with you on. Those films are masterpieces.

Well this is my personal list and it’s very subjective — by no means am I a film critic. I’m very well aware that a lot of these movies aren’t technically masterpieces. If I were trying to be objective, Moonlight and WOWS would be on here.

I have a strong predilection towards disturbing and shocking films. If I walk away bothered, offended, or shocked I’m automatically predisposed to love the film. That’s probably why I enjoy the work of Ari Aster, Lars von Trier, etc. As a result, Suspiria, Mother, and others make the list (even though these films aren’t really THAT good).

For this same reason I really enjoy Enter the Void (masterpiece imo) and Antichrist. Both aren’t THAT good and fairly pretentious but god damn I’m a sucker for shock & awe lol.

If anything though, I highly recommend The Act of Killing. It’s pretty f***ing wild — not to mention very difficult to describe. And if you’re down for an anime love story, Your Name is pretty amazing.

Word nah I respect it and u like what u like nah mean. I don’t think there’s really an objective way to rate art, and that’s cool because technically there’s no right or wrong answer.

But word ima have to look up that Killing movie, I like s*** that’s difficult as well. Reason why I liked Mother at first but then the director ruined it when he basically explained everything about the Bible connections and s***. I like movies that have layers and can be a case study. I feel like Birdman is the best example of that which you would agree on seeing how high it is on ur list.

LOVEEEE birdman, it might actually top moonlight for me now that I think about it. But the ending man so many theories u can come up with. That’s what I love a movie that’s a masterpiece, that not everyone gets, some think it’s wack because it’s not surface level “fun” and leaves a lot for open interpretation. The Master also fits into that as well. F*** I wish music albums were like this too.

To me, the way Birdman is shot and the cinematography and the sparse editing act as the foundation for its masterpiece status. From there, the script and the acting just shoot the whole thing into the stratosphere.

hmmm idk if i can say anything cogent or worthwhile about this s*** right now.

Definitely good. Not sure this is as good as y'all have been making it out to be. Right now I'm thinking like an 8/10. Could go higher.

Mainly I feel like this s*** had way too many secondary themes and small plot devices which it deployed very unevenly and haphazardly throughout the movie, pacing-wise.

Gave the movie a very ADHD feel to me, and I'm more of a fan of slow-burn meticulousness. I need to think more to even decipher what the purpose of certain elements were.

I feel like "Burning" which came out last year, also korean, had similar themes a bit. That was more my style. Also recommend to anyone reading this.

People starting to realize the greatness of Korean cinema

pretty sure that happened after Oldboy won Cannes and just during that whole era w s*** like memories for a murder, spring summer fall winter spring, etc..

or you can even go as far back as shiri (and that era in general w s*** like peppermint candy) which wasn’t really that great of movie but def put Korea on the map
