haven’t watched yet but if this is anything like burning I’m in
Styles were very different, but touched on similar issues IMO
pretty sure that happened after Oldboy won Cannes and just during that whole era w s*** like memories for a murder, spring summer fall winter spring, etc..
or you can even go as far back as shiri (and that era in general w s*** like peppermint candy) which wasn’t really that great of movie but def put Korea on the map
that's very true, but I feel like this movie is breaking even new ground than that. people who would never be even interested in Asian cinema kind of showing interest off this of reviews alone, but this is just the first big one I can think of in the true internet age.
Have you seen it yet bro? Honestly the hype is deserved I think it's like Top 5 Korean movie

I really loved how accessible it was in comparison to other films. Old Boy is 10/10 don’t get me wrong; But it’s story has a heavy cultural background. A lot of themes I still don’t completely understand. Parasite felt easy and I understood everything from it. My theatre was packed and I can see everyone enjoyed it.
if this get nominated for best foreign film at the oscars im gonna be so f***ing happy, the fact that no korean movie has been nominated before is a f***ing crime, and i hope this is the first

Exactly I really feel he hit the nail on the head with the way he approached the themes in this movie. He's always touched on Rich vs Poor but he really executed it well in this movie while making it fun

Could be nominated for best picture too, but they racist

if this was a just world it would sweep the oscars
also can we talk about how Song Kang-ho is an absolute legend? Him and Bong have a Scorcese/Deniro tier relationship and he steals the damn show everytime he's in a movie
gonna catch this in theaters, saw this about a month ago and I’ve been wanting to rewatch it ever since
lol just finished watching at home and my friend just hit me up to watch in theaters later today. dammit I shoulda just waited.

hollywood hates Asians so it would hurt their souls to do this

Especially after Moonlight got snubbed; POC’s are well aware s*** is an uphill battle. Academy doesn’t deserve the light of day imo.
Rewatched this earlier but in theaters for the first time. Made me love the film so much more. Still my MOTY.
The actress who played the rich wife is so beautiful. One of the best parts of the movie

apparently she’s famous for starring in full frontal “erotic” films in Korea..
so ppl saying that cooch rubbing scene was prolly a lil nod to that lol

need links to these films asap
edit: found em; The Servant, The Concubine, Obsessed
I know the chapaghetti w sirloin scene has something to do w/symbolic for the rich mixing w the poor or something like that but don’t know how to expand further on this idea though
instant noodles are cheap af and sirloin/beef in general is super expensive in Korea
that’s surface level or whatever but I’m sure it’s something more to it than just that I could just be really high right now tho
edit: also any other Korean ktt fam get their minds blown when she put Hanwoo quality beef into that chapaghetti? the whole time in my mind I was like “where they do that at?” Lol
