It does 😿
There should be like 10 blank spaces separating hard eight and licorice pizza from the rest to really put into perspective how much better the rest of his filmog is 😹
@op and other people, aside from rewatching obaa, what movie can i watch that will give me the same feeling i get out of watching obaa for the first time? idk maybe a dumbass question but like, should i watch another PTA? There will be blood? I'm not talking content wise I mean like emotionally/feeling-evoking wise

hard eight is much much better than licorass pizza
I haven’t seen licorice pizza. Is it really that much of a stain on his filmography?
I thought LP was fine. I wish it focused on other characters or more of an ensemble piece like magnolia. I didn't care for the two leads.

I personally loved it, it has a 90% on RT so it was only really polarizing among the general audience

Jokes aside which movies out his filmography would you consider “classic PTA structure”?

honestly, kinda yes. I think I'd prefer his filmography if it didn't exist.
ofc it's fun filmmaking, great cinematography, great acting... what you'd expect. but to me it v much felt like a re-hash of boogie nights 70s nostalgia, which in the 2020s just feels especially tired, I'm very happy he finally set a film in contemporary times w OBAA.
also most of all just a rly weird storyline of a romance between a kid and his babysitter... I mean like obviously Phantom Thread and Master and many of his other films aren't short of weird romances and also I'm not one of those Mericans seeing pedophilic conspiracy everywhere.. but there was something celebratory about this kid pursuing this rship and also him as a young capitalist entrepreneur which kinda rubbed me the wrong way and at the least felt like v confused or unclear messaging imo, maybe downright misguided story as a whole.
the main redeeming factor of the whole thing is that Alana Haim is a wonderful screen presence
