ive seen Bowie and Paul McCartney do both those songs live
nearly cried when Let Me Roll It came on, one of me and my dads mutual favourites. On that note my dad is gonna s*** his pants when he hears that Joe Walsh needle drop
one of his goats
also Peace Frog
really weird song that has Robby Kriegers most scorching and nimble solo
Philip Seymour Hoffman was my favourite actor.
Blew my mind just how similar Cooper's mannerisms are. Countless times I felt like I was watching his dad back on screen again. Excited to see where his career goes.

His acting was great in this and this is his first movie. Crazy. Lotta charisma.
Finally saw it. Pretty much what I expected and I enjoyed it. PTA has a gift of making the mundane absurd. It’s a specific subtle type of humor. PSH’s son was pretty damn great imo. Towards the end when he’s making the pinball moves and wants to show he’s the man, he really reminded me of his dad the most in that scene.
PS was one of the songs in the movie what Kanye sampled on “Ye vs the People” lol?

Niiice I was like hey I recognize that
just saw at the theatre. great picture but i had to piss in the middle of the movie and when i came back i accidentally knocked down someones drink
that s*** totally put me out of the movie and i felt like s***
respectfully this was ass
is everyone just choosing to ignore the pedophilia and the racism and the completely disjointed plot
and even past those things what chemistry do the main characters have
Let’s talk about the big positive in this movie. Bradley Cooper killed the f*** out this role
this tho that entire sequence was golden

The point of the film was to not ignore those f***ed up things that happened so casually back then
it's the same type of "disjointed" plot he's been doing for a minute and it's not for everybody

The racism is portrayed as that. It's cringey but I guess that's the point like Elric said.
as for chemistry.
a few things
||plenty of contradictions and diverse hierachies. PTA has already covered that in Phantom Thread but here it's more subtle I'd say.
Gary is already a rather autonomous guy who makes money and can mostly live by his own (looks pretty aimless in numerous situations tho), while Alana is still living with their family.
The age gap goes against that but the former aspect def makes Alana interested in what's going on.
She has often been treated poorly by men and struggles to express her romantic feelings/create intimacy while Gary is so aggressively open about it.
Gary isn't necessarily that interested in her as a person rather than just being enchanted by his objectification, which is obviously more a teenage thing. However, he cares for her anyway and she kinda likes that due to her poor experiences.
Then again, I doubt that this relationship would hold due to their respective differences in their emotional maturity but that's left up for the viewer to decide. I don't think the film is really advocating for pedophilia or anything. Rather on the contrary||
A good amount of PTA movies deal with examining the magnetism of charismatic and problematic people and the power dynamics that they have with people in their orbit and manipulation. So once again this movie, imo, doesn’t condone racism or pedophilia but exposes it for what it is and looks like in a white world during that time period. There’s no virtue signaling or knight with white armor. There’s also a decay of what white culture and masculinity is in this specific movie. That’s how I read it. The Japanese restaurant owner being an uncultured buffoon. The Hollywood producer who speaks Spanish to exert dominance. Bradley Cooper’s character going from Ferrari guy to the equivalent of a street wanderer in the end. It shows patheticness throughout not glorification. A lot of PTA characters are pathetic individuals.

Ignore? Lmao nigga I was arguing for 5 days about the pedophilia

I could possibly agree with this POV if PTA himself didn’t basically defend their relationship. You gotta admit it gets a little confusing when the filmmaker himself says “they never crossed the line. There’s not a provocative bone in this film”

morality is a construct. sry for the tone but the real world is more complex than that. Like I def condemn this s*** but the film is also simply showing what might've happened.

Didn’t know that context and quote. Weird to say, I disagree with him even though it’s his film lol. There were a handful of provocative moments between the two that are clearly crossing the line.

Exactly fam. We all see that, so it’s weird that the actual filmmaker is denying it. I’d prefer if he didn’t say anything and left it open for interpretation

Nah definitely but I think everyone agrees there are moments where she crosses the line, so the actual filmmaker denying that is weird af
dude asked if everyone was just “ignoring the racism” when the only racist moments come from a dude the movie makes obvious is a complete moron
and the pedophilia isn’t glorified either lmfao the woman is obviously lost and trying to find herself, making lots of bad decisions all throughout the film, one of which is entertaining a romantic relationship with a kid.
i stg i don’t understand how some people are so f***ing dumb and don’t even realize it
if i didn’t already have him blocked i’d quote Purple Shayn
