amazing ranking
Magnolia is his worst not counting Hard Eight
the melodrama is kind of exhausting on rewatches same with Cruise's performance
I agree that it’s his weakest, cause of the melodrama and not all the characters are as interesting as each other.
But it’s also his most ambitious movie.
And Tom Cruise is amazing.
It would be most filmmakers best work.
Have you seen Zerkalo? Closest thing to Master for me
Nah never heard of it.
But s***, if you’re comparing to The Master, sounds like I’m an for an emotional experience.

I wonder what lead him to wanna make something seemingly more simple and light hearted rather than something like how epic, dense, methodical(?) and spiritual(?) and sprawling(?) his last few were

Ooooooh, Mirror?
Yeah, I see what you mean, that one is something special.
Tarkovsky is an interesting comparison.
They both exist somewhere between dreams and hyper realism.
I only watched Mirror once, just let it wash over me, so I didn’t retain everything.
But I just got that feeling, I knew it was blessed.

Because those take an emotional toll and he wanted to switch it up
