It’s like lying on the beaches of California in the 70s. You’re in a weed haze, trying to grab on to the last genuine expressions of peace and love before the movement is co-opted by dark forces.

The Long Goodbye, Inherent Vice, Under the Silver Lake, The Big Lebowski, Mulholland Drive
It ends up being a big anti-climax because the mystery was just a vehicle used to reveal something about the culture during the time the movie was set
