If your other components are as old as the 2080 you’ll be bottlenecked either way you go unfortunately, unless you do a full system upgrade.
Putting in a 50 series shouldn’t give you any headaches outside of needing a 12v power connector or an adapter if your PSU doesn’t support it. Like I said with how second hand prices are, I think it’s worth paying the slight premium for a new card with a warranty. But ultimately up to you, a sub $650 4080 would be a good deal.
I have a 3950x and 128gb ram. P sure I have an 850 PSU. You think a 4080/4080super will have issues?

I also found a 4080 super for 800$. Idk if that’s a steal given msrp was 1k

That’s a very high end AM4 CPU you should be alright honestly. Will probably get a slight bottleneck in CPU heavy games, but nothing worth doing a full system upgrade over.

Not bad especially for a Super. Just gotta keep in mind some 5070 ti are going for 750 new with a multi year warranty (very similar performance to a 4080s, but uses less power). But If you really have your heart set on a 40 series, that’s not a bad price atp. 16gb cards will probably start skyrocketing in price over the next few months, may even be able to resell it yourself for over $1k if you wait long enough

My heart isn’t dead set on the 40 series I just don’t want to deal with the headache of new cords and possibly ddr4 issues down the line. I’m waiting on this guy to add more photos to the listing though because it’s just the box which I’m mildly suspicious on.

Yeah if you go 50 series you’d have to upgrade your PSU if it doesn’t have a 12v - 2x6 connector. Would probably be around $140ish for a decent one, so that eliminates any potential 50 series savings.
RAM shouldn’t matter too much on either card unless you’re currently running super slow speeds, which I doubt (sub 3200mhz). A DDR5 upgrade would obviously give better overall performance, but it’s just not worth it how prices are today.
Idk you already have a pretty beast AM4 setup. Either card would be slightly bottlenecked, but performance should still be really really good, just not the best you could possibly be getting. Depends on how much that matters to you.
Definitely be cautious, I’ve seen way too many bricks being shipped as GPUs recently

With my set up, what do you think would be the optimal choice? Keeping mind future proofing and price?
Yeah I’m not pulling a trigger on it unless they add more photos.

Future proofing I would 100% go with a 50 series, even while still on AM4. Get better temps/power drawn over a 40 series now, get better performance and longevity if you decide to go AM5 in the future. The warranty is also a big plus imo

I’ve had a 14600k/DDR4 setup with a 5070/5070ti/5080. Performance is still amazing. Unless you’re trying to push super high frames in games that are cpu dependent you should be fine.
Plus if you game at 4k (can use DSR if you only have a 1440p screen) any potential bottleneck should shrink since you’re mainly utilizing your GPU.

Is there a brand you’d recommend over another? I know PNY is always cheaper but that also worries me lol

And typically which store has the best warranty?

I’ve had 2 PNY cards (5070 ti/5080), the build quality is cheaper with more plastic and they look pretty ugly imo. But other than that no complaints. The 5070 ti was especially quiet even under load. PNY is typically the only manufacturer selling cards at MSRP.
I’ve never done a GPU RMA through the manufacturer personally, so can’t speak to how easy they actually are. But from what I’ve seen, everyone but ASUS are solid. Asus have been known to deny claims over small issues. Amazon is the easiest storefront to return if you don’t want to deal with a manufacturer warranty

DLSS 4.5 announced
2nd gen transformer model, improvements all around, claims that Performance mode is equal or better than native & that Ultra perf mode is now viable at 4K, available as override in the beta nv app today, next week for non beta app
Dynamic Multi Frame Gen & 6X Multi Frame Gen for 50 series, better UI awareness during Frame Gen, available from Spring
Can't lie, Dynamic mode does sound like heat even though we shouldn't be championing FG too much really
Nice to see new features but still a shame the MFG stuff won't be on the 40 series due to not having the flip metering HW
My TV is 120hz and I've been wanting to switch to a 165hz one (3x MFG for 55 fps x 3 would be decent) but can't justify it, although my laptop is 1440p 240hz & my monitor is 300hz although only 1080p
I dont understand who dlss 4.5 is for, looking at the videos framedrop seems significant, might as well run native lol

its frame drop compared to dlss 4 not native
Preset M is dropping me 10-15 fps in Cyberpunk at Ultra 4k. Looks basically native with very few imperfections from what I can see. Motion clarity seems improved, I can’t see any of the usual dlss smearing. Really impressive but idk if I’d take the performance hit in a normal session, the K preset already looks good enough at 4k.
The frame gen improvements seem way more interesting.
Still nothing about Reflex 2
4.5 First half of clip alot of crawling in background same thing in star wars outlaws 4k dlss quality
2nd half native 4k some crawling still on her jacket but not on wall like on 4.5 dlss
how do i eliminate the noise crawling period?
No problem. Hope you get what you want
I got a 5070 ti. I was looking at a 5080 sitting at 1100, but the day I was gonna pull the trigger it jumped to 1400. The 5070ti was 850 which seems like a better deal.

Hugeeeee. You won't regret going with the 5070 ti over the 5080, that 16gb of VRAM is future proofed for years. Enjoy man that's gonna be a massive upgrade coming from a 2080 ti.
What you planning to play first?
