Me and my boys are still locked into the new drops on friday and try to at least listen to who’s poppin. I don’t go digging to be the first to be on to someone these days though. I also prefer to listen to shorter projects and will get turned off if it’s a new person or someone i’m eh about that has 15+ songs on the album

Yeah I straight up won't listen to an album that is like 55 minutes + and/or over 20 songs. I get artists do this to juice streaming numbers but I do not have the patience to listen through a couple dozen songs to pick out the 3-4 good ones

    1. yes absolutely, especially my friends who dont make music, even if they had a good taste when we were younger a lot of have fallen off or developed oldhead mentalities

    2. i think my line of work makes it a bit easier for me to stay caught up on stuff (musician / youtuber who talks about music / ktt s***poster) but i do sometimes find myself making a concerted effort to listen to stuff, and sometimes i can go weeks without feeling like i found something good

    and im 28

I've only gotten deeper into music discovery as I've gone through my 20s. I love this s***, mane.

do you notice people you grew up with becoming less enthusiastic about new music as they age? becoming less open minded? only checking for artists they already know that they enjoy?

do you ever feel yourself moving that way and have to make an effort to stay in touch? do you feel you were more open minded when you were younger?

just up rn thinking about how ppl’s relationships with music change as they age

Definitely noticed myself just bumping s*** from the 2000’s and 90’s but the difference is with us is that mainstream music actually devolved. Theres no equivalent today for what drake wayne kanye hov did

Niggas made that thread about Nas “who killed it” but i miss the time where that or Gold Watch by Lupe was still a “mainstream rap song” or at least could exist on a mainstream album from someone under 30-35

The current state of music sucks but that's a bizarre way to solidify the take.

It's a tape never on streaming from one of the most listened to artists of the younger generations, and is considered one of the best tapes of the 2010s. This didn't happen when macadelic, faces, live love, and other tapes went on streaming after many years too lol

Travis being one of the most listened to artists of the younger generations is the perfect case point for the current state of music sucking.

Travis debuted 12 years ago and is one of the 5 biggest hip hop acts. The rest of that top 5 also debuted 10+ years ago. If the current state of music didn't suck these guys wouldn't still be dominating.

People settle in with what they like and get too comfortable. They might have one or two years where they actively dig for old/new music every day/week but eventually move on from that grind.

I don't want to go that way because there's always dope old joints to catch up on/discover buried in the sea/ocean of mid.... I just want to discover more R&B since I feel like a casual in that genre....

Bro tap in with the R&B section of KTT2. We got the RNB Thread by @mdmadon, Soul Sundays by @AudioConsulting, and GemStones by @Aquilla. We always showcasing undiscovered new and old R&B

It's cause artists that are coming up aren't talented whatsoever.

Like, y'all can't convince me that Carti's dope.

    Underground's thriving though.

Just saying in general from like, the late 2010's /now.

Ain't nobody can bar up anymore.

If you got a hot beat & a catchy hook, kids are gonna eat it up.

There's no effort being put forth product nowadays & it shows.

    Everything's lazily slapped together

  • Sep 3, 2024

i dont listen to new music just youngboy, bach, chopin and mozart

  • Sep 3, 2024

Like I grew up to Hov, Ye, DOOM, etc.

We grew up in an era where the culture was thriving with excellence & were getting spoiled with classics left n' right.

Kendrick's the only one in the mainstream who's been holding s*** down (imo)

There's plenty of artistry still going on. In the mainstream yeah there's not a lot of lyricism but that's been more underground in general for forever vs mainstream

If you don't like the mainstream then just avoid it, plenty of music out there and sales don't actually matter

Pretty much boils down to that.

There's always underground cats that recapture that era we were so accustomed to.
