I will never see it and never will understand why. Noticed this so much since SRS dropped which isn’t even his best project or even a project that really is that good to begin with. (I do respect songs like Azucar, The Mint, and Cold Summers but I never bother going back to listen to them.)

Lyrically, Earl has never moved me like that. Every time someone tells me every bar he drops on his best verses are filled with constant “thought provoking double entendres“ are always huge reaches based off what I’m reading, and him being syllable heavy on a lot of his tracks just comes off as super forced to me more than half the time. Earls fans are the same type of people to make fun of lyrical miracle rappers for just forcing syllables in their verses when Earl does the same thing and isn’t really that wowing lyrically to begin with.

Now don’t get me started with SRS. “yOu GoTtA lIsTeN tO It 42 TiMes fOr tHiS MaStErPiEcE tO gRoW oN YoU.” For a 20 something minute album this s*** really drags and it DRAGS. Like I said before, I do respect songs like The Mint, Cold Summers, and Azucar altho I never bother to listen to them but those beats were produced fairly well imo for the type of Lo-Fi/Madlib/Dilla influenced sound it seemed to go towards. Everything else was completely forgettable and when I go back to this album I always forget how some of these songs sound. The beat for Red Water tho is absolutely atrocious. Don’t really need to hear a crying sound affect on loop for almost two minutes. SRS really isn’t anything amazing in fact far from it. It’s cool that people do like the album but saying its an all time great top tier hip hop album is a huge stretch on all ends and I see this more and more on other internet rap communities and underground blogs primarily by people who aren’t big rap fans in general. Album is whatever imo, I won’t say it’s trash but I think if someone like Blu was to make this album he would execute the sound and style of it much better.

I know some people will say that people have forced Kendrick to extremes as this hip hop legend and GOAT (and even more than Earl at one point) and altho I do believe Kendrick is one of the most overrated rappers of all-time at this point, he has proven himself much more than Earl on many more occasions and has albums like GKMC that I do believe live (or come close) to the hype that they get. (The TPAB goat album praise is a bit extreme but TPAB is so many light years ahead of SRS at the end of the day which is also another big difference compared to Earl.) And on top of it, Kendrick is a much more polished rapper all around than Earl in just about every aspect.

Wanted to make this thread for a minute but never got to it, but I wanted to share my thoughts as I feel generally speaking Earl might have the worst rap stans on the internet at this moment in time
