shoutout this thread for the herpes awareness I def did not know it's that common

Bro I've been intimate with like 10 girls and kissed probably double that. Never even remotely got near herps lol. It's not that "common" buddy.

OP did you test for anything else

Took the Western Blot test (essentially a blood test) where it tests for everything and was negative except for what’s stated in the title.

Try to accept the shame OP in the sense of needing to learn by consequence of being more careful and valuing your health/safety more — this is what helped me not be too mentally bogged by this

Zero shame and personally idgaf because I’m asymptomatic

Hate to break it to you but I’d wager at least 50% of them had it and you weren’t aware of it. Unless you got all of them tested…

Dame get that person on herbs. Take so much research but it's possible.

    UPDATE:

Got back together with her shortly after breaking up and continued dating. Took the test back in December, keep in mind this is PRIOR to sex.

Turns out I tested positive for HSV-1, assuming I had this since childhood and again, my GF got the exact same strain but in different location.

Guess we’re chillin then lol, and f*** all yall naysayers ITT. Looking back I was close to ending this relationship over nothing

Yo I got mad respect for you dawg.

50-80% of Americans got it my nigga dont even sweat it, I hope you and shawty live long and prosper

She got it down there, and I have it around my mouth (zero symptoms tho). She gave me head multiple times prior to testing but it wasn’t possible to catch it from that in our case lol.

I very well could’ve either had it from childhood, ex-wife, or random encounters from several women

ex-wife? how old r u dawg if u dont mind me askin

    ooooooh that makes sense.

Either way, take ya meds and keep on living. We really gotta stop villanizing STDs, both incurable and curable. Dealt with someone that had chlamydia (they got stealthed the week before, I hate niggas man) and she was blaming herself the whole time and that s*** was sad to watch even after I told her it's ok I still like you fam.

Absolutely, though I won’t need meds in my case since there aren’t any symptoms. Even though my GF got the same strain (albeit in a different location), her case is much worse as she caught it later in her life with symptoms and has to continuously take meds. The stigmatization against HSV needs to end, and makes me sad to know how misinformed people are about it.

This entire process has been a big learning experience personally and I’m happy to see someone else being understanding. With that said I heard a vaccine is on the way, so there’s that

I was tested for everything across the board a few years ago. Pretty sure they do HSV too.

But yeah, I've heard ppl say this since I was a teen, and I've managed to stay clear of it

Hopefully it was a part of your test but most routine STD testing doesn't test for herpes unless your specifically request it because of how prevelant it is

@op at least it wasn't HIV, but even if it had been, you could live normally by taking two pills every day, and thank God there's CRISPR research showing good signs for a possible cure and vaccine

man, I tested negative for syphilis and HIV - started the PEP treatment and tested negative again after the 30 days
I just did it to be certain I was safe, since the condom popped out for a few seconds when I was with this girl

it was a very anxious month, but I found a lot of help, I'm glad for that

Even then I heard the treatment and medication for HIV is so good where the transmission rate is essentially 0. I’m afraid it’ll be a dealbreaker for me only because the thought about smashing someone with a virus that could kill you scares the hell out of me.
