What would you say is the main theme of Persona 4? I also see people saying it's about "truth" and I find that to be too nonspecific.
I see Persona 4 as being about people trying to gain an understanding of themselves and the world around them; that's the common thread that ties together the main character arcs and the social links, and it's also the point of division between the protagonists and antagonist.
I know this wasn't questioned to me, but I think P4 was about accepting and knowing how things are like what actually is the real reason behind whatever, you're true self, what you/humanity truly wanted. it boils down to truth but that's only the surface, think that's why I ended up loving it so much
how yall feel about this
I'm excited for new TWENY, the og was my fav DS game but this hasn't really grabbed yet need to see more gameplay before i can get really. can't believe they're copying shibuya from P5 tho.
I hope Persona 6 is set in college, would be nice, P3 was in a dorm so the vibes are there

the only way I could see them even considering that is if they thought the generation that grew up with 4 and 5 was the only demographic that bought these and aged with em.
which is pretty false, but just an example. I dont see why they'd now go to college, but I will say 5 was probably the most diverted from the school concept of any of em, and they've progressively deviated from the importance of school since 3.

hell I get you bro. I bought OG P5 during my last year in HS, as a minor. Its weird that alot of the memories I value from there, alot of the relationships are things that I "shouldnt" have the same type of connection to, with now being an adult
its jarring sometimes

I think you hit the nail on the head actually
Truth is just the word that encompasses all the themes that P4 tackles. Like you said, understanding (or the pursuit of understanding) is the one theme that's consistently present. It bleeds into the music, the setting, the social links, everything.
Getting a better understanding of themselves, the nature of the town they live in, of the murders is what drives the characters. I really like the party members social links because in a lot of ways they deal with the characters trying to get a better understanding of themselves, warts and all. In the story, they gain their personas by accepting their shadows, and after that, they make a concerted effort to parse "why is this me? How can I use this as my strength?"
I guess that's just a pretty roundabout way of saying it's about truth, but I try to look at it like a web of words. Truth is simple, but you can break it down way way more. Like for me, the aspect that I latched onto super hard was "self-discovery."
Haven't beat this game and it's so nostalgic
