Guess I'm the only nigga that liked the music video and song. Its obviously a giant Travis ripoff but tbh I dont mind it cus its not offensively bad.
That other song he got on streaming is kinda lame tho.
I definitely see why people are hating tho. PgLang gives you a kinda weird first impression with that unorthadox Q&A video of him, so you expect something special and then you just get a guy whos not doing anything special at all.
i feel like ppl might like the song if it wasn’t for the kendrick co sign but at the same time no one would listen to dude if not for kendrick
At the end of the day it’s being scrutinized because it’s Kendrick.
Niggas walking around with a set of testicles in their hair for a year isn’t marketing but this is
I wanted just one person to admit it. Lol. And I can't even really blame that on anyone
I think there's still interesting discussion to be had tho! But for sure that's the root
The specific discussion I'm focused on began before we heard a single lyric from homie. I don't care for the songs either, but that doesn't take me away from the questions I raise or the points I try to make. Feel me?
Missed that whole timing
Jah feel
I get that. But it almost seems like that's more provocation on the part of the consumer. Idk if pgLang is having board meetings strategizing about how to be mysterious. It can just simply be the way they wanna try something. They're brand new.
I'm not shocked by the extra (negative) pressure Dot's association has on the collective. But it would be dope if we as consumers could find a way to put that aside, or at least not make it hold SO much weight in our impressions.
I agree here
If its Kendrick Lamar related then I'm expecting a certain type of quality.
doesn't have to be the best but I would think anything associated with Kendrick's brand would be well polished
TDE actually did a good job with this building their label, took their time with releases and rarely had trash

And I suppose that's fair, especially for those artists who handpick the acts for "their label" and have huge hands in cultivating them. Idk if we really know Dot's involvement currently, but the fact that it's pgLang associated is obviously going to come under a different type of judgment than if it was some random new Def Jam signee.
You such a TDE d***riding bum I hope you're getting some sort of compensation for gobbling their balls on here
And watch how you speak to me on here I'd smack the s*** out you in front of your family
dawg chillll

Yea I feel like this song might've got a lot of love if it came out round 2014ish, but now idk man I dont see anyone really excited for this sound since we got tons of other artists doing the same s***. And yea if it wasn't for pgLang and Kendrick backing this I doubt anyone would've given this a chance to begin with.
The music followed less than 24 hours later?
Like I just don't get it. Do we want the music business to be completely devoid of intrigue? Of variation? If a new artist is debuting, it should only be the song and nothing else? That's not the way this business has been for a long long time. Entertainment. Style.
And for the 10th time, if it's boring it's BORING. If the music is lame, it's LAME. But promotional tactics exist and I really don't see the big ol' deal personally.
But I appreciate you conversing with me
it doesn't really matter that much
the bottom line is if you're going to do something mysterious/intriguing as an intro, the music better be incredible

no, that's not "the bottom line" there's so much more that goes into artistry than a consumer's opinion.

you could've just not responded lol

your last sentence. yes, I agree. but it's also wild that it goes from being given a chance, to expecting a "prodigy" or a "mastermind" (words that were used earlier in the thread) simply because of another great artist's association and a promotional tactic. it almost doesn't even seem like a fair shot.
pgLang is 0 for 1 with that Keem debut, tried to turn him into a Reddit rapper
Shut up

personally, I didn’t expect a prodigy or anything crazy
all I expected was something interesting
like when I first heard keem or Brent or jorja or other pglang affiliated artists

Hmmm. Would we count Brent or Jorja in that. Those artists been active, and as far as I know have been in one advert for pgLang. Even Keem to a certain degree, but I would say him and Tanna seems like the first artist they really showcasing from the "start."
But I hear you. We'll just have to wait and see how it unfolds.

Random question on the same topic, who are a couple of the last artists co-signed by/signed to another artist that have met your expectations with their debut singles or album?
I finally heard the song on the first page. It was so uninteresting and bland. Nothing about his style stands out at all. It's just plain vanilla.

yea I wouldn’t say they are pglang artists. I just included them because they did stuff with them and because they were interesting from the start
it would have helped to actually know who this dude is. like keem had songs so we saw him develop but coming out the gate with a 2014esque days before rodeo travis scott sound and mo bamba like video, is not a good first impression. sounds like every dude in high school who listened to owl pharoah
