Do you use an acoustic piano? Or a keyboard? Is an acoustic even worth owning? They seem pretty bulky and expensive

Unless you have the space or the money there is literally no need for you to ever have an acoustic piano. And if you do, go for a baby grand.

But even if you do have the space and money, it is still not necessary. Tuning an acoustic piano is hell on earth.

That’s definitely how it seems. They’re just not practical anymore. Do you have recommendations for a quality electric?

First off is what is your budget?

As a nigga that’s been playing for 20 years on out of tune pianos, s***ty casios, digital keys, and nords (that I do not f***ing own ) the important thing is you.

Your technique and form and practicing will translate regardless to any keyboard whether it’s a casio or a high quality nord electro.

I’d say about $1500. I’d push a bit more if I feel it’s worth it. Any practice I’ve had was on a midi keyboard so anything is better than what I have lol. I really want it to feel more tactile though

Yamaha modx 61 key is good.

It can go up to to the high $1,000s BUT I highly recommend you go to reverb.com you can find some great deals on digital pianos but for at home purposes you can’t go wrong with the yamaha brand. And they’re semi-weighted so you get the “best of both worlds” in terms of feel.

  • Cheap alternative (for folks that gotta penny pinch)

Get a midi keyboard, use whatever daw you like the most (e.g. i use logic), “legally” get the keyscape or lounge lizard (some of the best rhodes sounds you’ve ever heard) plugins and voila

I use an electric, but it absolutely is worth it to own an acoustic if you live in a place that you’re going to stay for a while. I’m in college so there’s no point in me getting a piano for the temporary house I’m staying at, but when I find a place after I’m def gonna get an acoustic. You can find them for FREE on facebook
