right? to me it hits the right spot, im going back into it by the sixties psych of pipe didn’t hit as much or felt too bluesy where saucerful brings a more.. modern psychedelic as we know it, maybe it has to do with the songwriter switch, after all like you said syd seem more folk influenced which im not a fan of, but def going back after reading your post about it 🤗

Piper is much more of the typical whimsical UK psych(+some pop) sound too, which might not sound as psychedelic to your ears as at first the "trippier" kind of psych. especially compared to neo-psych modern type things which sound trippier to the layman because of more effects/ and stuff like that. whereas Saucerful is more (proto) space rock leaning and you can definitely hear more of what became their sound. i love how different the 2 long songs of each album are from each other

really speaks to their talent what they decided to do with it. They knew their main songwriter was gone and they couldnt copy/match him, so they went more cerebral and less song-focused. Not only did they avoid the sophomore slump after losing the leader of the band, they did something different/expanded on aspects of their sound with Syd

i would recommend listening to Barrett first before Madcap just cuz its much less folky

that’s why i like pre dark side era the most because it’s a full band yknow? but lot of people love roger concepts albums

again i really like wish you were here because it’s the one that sounds the most “colorful” out of them with all the fun synth stuff, like with that aspect there’s still some creativity going musically even tho the songs starts to get very roger (aka slow, whiny acoustic stuff) but david still comes and saves it on songs like wish you were here, im not saying all this as a bad thing just my perspective on it i still really like the album

but ig animals gets too rogery for my taste

tbh maybe you just hear those acoustic guitars beginning and your mind kinda shuts off to it and rogers inferior voice

I still see Animals as more of a group effort than Wall, yes songwriting is Roger but they all play an important role so it doesnt really feel like the Roger Waters show to me. some absolutely crucial Wright moments on there. for example the keyboards in the beginning and middle section of Sheep, so important to the song. And Gilmour's guitar definitely doesn't sound like a guest as much as on the next 2

that’s fair that’s fair echoes is a massive pf stamper and the guitar breakdown in it is so good but idk this symphonic piece is so underrated i never see it played or referenced or talked about

i think some people might be thrown off by the lack of vocals+choir+horns on atom heart

the middle section is so godly

you’re right its just an overall burned out feeling i can’t explain rationally

it’s like bob dylan i just can. not. anymore at all not even a full album.. i think the pattern to be find here is the whole folk serious sound thing, to me it’s not exciting or thrilling

whoever reads this is free to think im being ignorant it’s fine it’s just my takeaway from it or making sense of it, i don’t hear much that gets me going

and well, the wall is overblown but has a lot of that, and so going back to animals it kinda feels like the premise for it, so in my mind im kinda blocking it ig bc i really reaaallly don’t wanna dive back into that sound, i just remember a lot of acoustic roger solo stuff on animals so i do block it lol

it feels kinda like graphic design is my passion to me, i dont make sense of it altho the cover fits the album mood, but i just see a random band photo in a middle of a lot of nothing lol, altho it was storms firt job and maybe in hindsight im being more difficult because of some iconic stuff he did later

you might dislike madcap laughs cuz of the genre, but hopefully the less serious sound of it gets you going a little more

i feel u. i tend to like those kind of psych covers where its trying to be trippy, even when its corny they always have a certain charm.

like this one is ugly af but i love it

man yeah roger voice... a dying sheep recorded fr

i would even put uhhh momentary lapse of reason above it because it at least has learning to fly NOW i know that song is hilarious like it’s just your typical “im a guitarist i sing but i have no idea what to sing about roger come back pls” song but at least it has some catchy melody, little ear worm with the arrangement and guitar, it’s nice and a welcome after the overdose of ultra serious roger projects good lord, breath of fresh air much???
