what version of A saucerful of secrets does everyone prefer?
Mono except for the title track, maybe Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, and Jugband Blues. the stereo is still pretty good and i still listen sometimes, definitely better than piper's, but a lot of the times the stereo mix is still mainly mono besides some elements like a vocal. the 2010 remix of Jugband Blues is better than the original stereo one though i think.
i have the 2011 version of the stereo and vinyl rip of the 2019 record store day version of the mono (dont think mono ever saw a CD release)

see i used to like division over momentary for the longest time bc it didn’t have that 80s dated prod n felt more classic which is what david wanted, he uses the term “timeless”
and this got me thinking lately
when you go back to the albums more n more over time and read more about the band and get the bigger picture u get better perspective
the take away is that they always progressed, like greats do, beach boys etc, they adapt to the change of trends n explore more
from when syd was in it, to when he left, to the switch from psychedelic to prog, then roger taking over with concept albums, some disco touch, then digging more into him being solo - which is why i dislike final cut because at least the wall progresses from animals, for better or worse, while final cut is literally just left overs from the wall
so jump into momentary, yeah it’s over blown 80s, more pop, but they were embracing their era and blending their style to it while still being more “light” and that’s an interesting mix bc there wasn’t really other psychedelic or prog bands still going and trying to balance that out
but then there’s division bell, n while it sounds more familiar: let’s for example take a song like “what do you want from me” one of the better ones imo it sounds like classic pf right? straight out from skme their 70s sound
but that’s regressing in a way, not very creative to trying to push, sure they were getting old dudes but then look at robert wyatt
so idk kinda changes my pov but then i have to go back to both albums in full again to see how i feel about it

Did u talk to him about it?
The growth between ummagumma to wish you were here is amazing that part of their discography tells it’s own story. Like the most important part of the band just left so for our next album let’s just experiment doing our own thing. slowly they put the puzzle back together then meddle they finally have something. Dark side of the moon it felt like they achieve what they were trying to make. Then wish you were here they were dam we have all this success and syd isn’t here to enjoy it with us. I don’t think there’s no other artist discography that paints their personal journey like that besides maybe Kanye
Which album should i listen to first if im a first time listener?

Honestly TPATGOD to WYWH tells it’s own story. Absolute tragedy Waters couldn’t control his ego for the following albums
