    I’m not mad at the score in itself but I am mad that this got a 9.0 and HNM got a 6.6

    Pitchfork just need to come out and say they hate straight black males aside from their tokens Kanye and Kendrick

    You gone listen to these vocals and the ones on HNM and still be baffled? I like both albums btw

    They always gotta make it something it’s not man.

    Instead of just enjoying and a***yzing great musicianship and great songs it always has to be angled into some politically charged intellectual thesis statement.

    She made 16 amazing songs for the club with lyrics like “drop it like a thotty drop it like a thotty” and somehow they interpreted the album as a “conduit for radical Black anger”

    They said not having videos was revolutionary lol

    I did I'm just not going to lie to you like all the other beyonce fans

    I even have a friend of mine who does listen to this type of music religiously and what he said was certain songs are fire (and that's true) nut that he is thoroughly disappointed in this new project, that it's too ratchet idkk, his words not mine

    I don't agree with the ratchet or whatever but def doesn't hit like lemonade, yall are trippin

    aside from maybe church girl, most of these songs are a mix of 70s/80s disco and funk (Plastic off the Sofa, VIRGO Groove, Summer Rennaissance) or LGBTQ+ ballroom and vogue culture. That’s where a lot of the references/quotes/ song structure come from

    If your calling the more spoken/commentary talk-rapping bits ‘ratchet’ it’s because you don’t understand the subgenre and the LGBT+ audience she’s catering to.

    “ which is why I don’t understand why Pitchfork used that as a critique against Honestly, Nevermind” - because his delivery, flow and overall presence was terrible.. not only was his vocals not making up for the lyrics but he’s not nearly as charming/witty as Beyonce in DELIVERING the lyrics in a believable way.. Drake was literally lifeless that entire album which is what made his asinine lyrics sound even worse!

    Drake has been delivering singing vocals like that his entire career and they’ve given him positive reviews before.

    They specifically made a point of criticizing the lyrical content of HN, not his delivery of said lyrics.

    Saying Renaissance’s lyrical content is a “conduit for Black anger” literally makes no sense because almost every song on here is either made to dance to or hear in a club setting. They’re just over-complicating it because it’s a Beyonce album and they want to seem woke.

    The vocal performance doesn’t justify the huge gap in score

    They basically gave her s*** a 90 and his a 66 that’s nearly a 30 point swing

    I could see if that gave HNM a 7.5 and this like an 8.5, that would be reasonable

    They aren’t even trying to hide their biased-ness anymore

    If you think his singing on Too Good and Passionfruit sounds good, that means you think his singing on HN sounds good because it’s the exact same delivery and cadence he’s used in his singing his entire career.

    It was just a meme to hate on the album the night it dropped and people have ran with that ever since

    Drake has NEVER sounded as bad vocally as he did on HN.. stop lying breh! We all loved that cover of Kanye’s 24

    They wouldn’t have complained about Drake’s lyrics if the Melody, the flow and his interpretation was hitting.

    For example:

    beyonce on heated on paper looks like
    “ Like stolen Chanel, lock me up in jail
    Cuff me, please, 'cause this ain't fair
    Dripped in my pearls like Coco Chanel
    Uncle Jonny made my dress
    That cheap Spandex, she looks a mess”

    But when you HEAR it on record it sounds like:

    (3:50)

    And it’s the HARDEST part of the song.. why!? It’s not because the lyrics necessary cut deep or even make any real sense.. it jus that she sounds energetic and lit as f*** saying them.. that’s charm, that’s wit, that’s presence. She makes us believe her

    Drake on the other hand sounded like he needed a good nap lol

    Ok, well I think it might be a few reasons. But if I had to number them, the lack of good melodies would be first on my list of things that account for the drastic difference. He just sounds like he’s riffing on every song. Like these guys.
