Drake has NEVER sounded as bad vocally as he did on HN.. stop lying breh! We all loved that cover of Kanye’s 24
They wouldn’t have complained about Drake’s lyrics if the Melody, the flow and his interpretation was hitting.
For example:
beyonce on heated on paper looks like
“ Like stolen Chanel, lock me up in jail
Cuff me, please, 'cause this ain't fair
Dripped in my pearls like Coco Chanel
Uncle Jonny made my dress
That cheap Spandex, she looks a mess”
But when you HEAR it on record it sounds like:
And it’s the HARDEST part of the song.. why!? It’s not because the lyrics necessary cut deep or even make any real sense.. it jus that she sounds energetic and lit as f*** saying them.. that’s charm, that’s wit, that’s presence. She makes us believe her
Drake on the other hand sounded like he needed a good nap lol
cleared
Renaissance is the 2nd best album of the year but that verse on the end of Heated is really bad lmao

That part of the song literally ruins it lol
He sounds shaky throughout this whole song and when he stretches to reach those higher notes at the beginning of certain phrases he’s flat
I will never understand why people hype up his version of the song because it does not sound good at all lmao
“He sounds shaky throughout this whole song” -
Drake has always had an uneven oscillation with his vibrato. Always.. especially live where it almost ventured into tremolo territory .. that doesn’t mean that he isn’t hitting the correct pitches or not displaying some commendable agility/phrasing chops and other factors that make the vocal performance still SOUND good. I never implied Drake had some type of incredible technical prowess I simply pointed out traits that made this particular performance standout in a positive way
“when he stretches to reach those higher notes at the beginning of certain phrases he’s flat..” - being under pitched here and there doesn’t mean you’re ‘singing all the wrong notes’ ..it jus means you have a few intonation issues in the middle of your chest range.. happens if you’re used to vocalizing in a lower tessitura.
In any case, although that performance isn’t PERFECT, it was impressive and wasn’t terrible like HN.
But why are you comparing the production on HN to Renaissance at all?
Sure they’re both “house” albums, but they were both going for two totally different approaches to house music.
I think both albums are fantastic and I don’t understand why some of you on here have to s*** on HN in your praise of Renaissance
Because ppl are being passive aggressive against Bey’s score bringing up HN to explain why critics are biased and have a agenda against Drake when maybe, Beyonce jus killed that s***.

You’re using all these words and technical definitions to describe it, and while I appreciate it, I still think his 24 performance just does not sound good.
He’s shaky, he sounds unsure of himself, he sounds like he’s struggling to reach some of those higher notes, and overall it just does not sound pleasing to the ear. I don’t find it impressive whatsoever, but neither do I find the singing on HN all that impressive either. He’s always been a very middle of the road singer, and it’s worked for him

She’s ‘commentating’
If you don’t understand LGBTQ vogue/ballroom culture then just SAY that! It’s a subgenre art form that’s typically only known amongst ppl acquainted with the community
Here’s some commentating battles that will educate you on the influences beyonce is pulling from

They were just comparing certain critiques pointed against Drake that were ignored in the Beyonce review

Y’all doing way too much now. Somebody can not like something while fully understanding the intention and origins behind it. The verse on the end of Heated simply sounds bad and out of place on that specific song in my opinion
They were just comparing certain critiques pointed against Drake that were ignored in the Beyonce review
It’s wasn’t ignored because a lot of Beyonces critiques came from her lyrical content as well.. being described as frivolous, shallow, pretentious, forced, gaudy etc from dozens of reviews
Y’all jus pick and choose the really positive ones to support whatever ‘she’s not being critiqued and blind praise’ narrative when a lot of her ratings are in the 80s and specifically point out the same things y’all say she isn’t getting critiqued for
There’s 10 reviews off hand I can point out that echo the same sentiments
That has nothing to do with “understanding” anything, I just think it sounds bad and doesn’t fit that specific song

Oh you just don’t like it.. gotcha
Understood
I’ve been having to educate ppl because they didn’t understand a lot of the stylistic choices and decisions she made and whenever I let them see it in context with the theme they generally get a better appreciation
You still could have watched the videos gah damn. The girls were going OFFF 😂

Appreciate the knowledge tho
It's so funny how the Pitchfork review for HNVM critiqued the album lyrics but nobody gonna question Beyonce calling herself a thotty at 40 amongst all the other terrible lines on this album
so these niggas couldn't criticize the sales, quality, or the critics, so now they want to talk about the lyrical content on a dance album
Album is good but critics are doing the most with the praise only because it's Beyoncè.
as someone who likes Honestly Nevermind
the bad reception on that album was set in stone the moment the second half of Falling Back kicked in
Definitely lol, if he didn't open with that song the reception would have been much better
Album is good but critics are doing the most with the praise only because it's Beyoncè.
I think it being Beyonce is a reason why the record is as good (and as important) as it is, though. You can't have one without the other.

Lyrics sucked
Sorry buster

Fair enough.
