Nah they’re kinda wildin. Like am I tripping? The album really is not bad whatsoever, just plainly average in a lot of areas

Ppl for some reason expected a classic, but it was average

To level their expectations, they decided it was terrible

And tweeted that it was terrible

Then ppl saw that it was cool to hate on twitter, so they also decided it was terrible

    Happens often.

With little substance or musical intrigue, “First Class” and “Dua Lipa” are anodyne pieces of content designed to make somebody say, “Did you hear that Jack Harlow song that samples Fergie, or the one called ‘Dua Lipa’?” There’s no better answer than a dead-eyed “Yeah.”

It has and always will be, f*** Pitchfork

But I just don’t get how people were expecting a classic lol, every artist hypes up their own music during a rollout

Album isn’t bad but definitely is hella flat in a lot of places. Which is a shame cause I liked his last project and his older stuff.

But damn at some points it literally felt like I told an AI to write a song and start rappin to it

  • Just said this in another thread: this is a decent album with several high points but also some weak, filler bars and verses (middle verse of Young Harleezy is the definition of basic). That said, I don’t think there’s a truly awful song on here. It’s all very listenable and fun if you don’t overanalyze it. He unlocks some dope flows and melodies and sounds much more confident.

Does it lack lyrical depth? Yes - a lot of the songs are blatantly geared towards women to the point it gets a bit tiresome. It’s cool to hear his take on fame and wanting to go back home though.

It’s not a masterpiece by any stretch, but I don’t think it was intended to be. It’s only his second major label album and his first being truly in the spotlight. From a career perspective it made total sense to aim for a big, accessible, largely inoffensive and catchy mainstream album to solidify his spot. The music is pretty good without being overly insightful, certainly enough to rack up more chart and social media success.

Similar situation to Drake and Thank Me Later imo. Now that he’s put his big mainstream statement out, cemented his place as a star and gotten co-signs from big artists, maybe next time around he’ll create a more personal project.

But to summarize, Come Home The Kids Miss You does what it was seemingly intended to do and is far from terrible, in fact it’s largely good with a few great moments.

First five or six tracks form a great run, it gets bogged down in the middle a tad but finishes strongly with State Fair. Jack’s rapping towards the end of that song shows why he’s so highly regarded by some of the goats

  • Maybe what he needs to do is like a side A/ side B thing. A for the folks who want bars and s***, B for the folks who want to hear s*** they can use for TikTok.

I'm very surprised he's getting this much backlash tbh.

Didn’t need pitchfork to tell me the album was ass

Certain users really put this kid on a pedestal like he was about to have the game on lock

I do kinda want some Mac Miller trajectory for Jack tbh

I'd like to see him make good music
