If you sell less than 20k a project there's a good chance Alphonse is giving you a 7.5+
or if your tap water is brown and muddy
it’s very clearly his best album. maybe second best depending on your idea of what you expect from him
you can even hates its guts that's fine, HHDX gave it a 4.8/10 and that's totally legit because HHDX is a worthy publication
Pitchfork barely discusses the music in their reviews. They are a stain on the legacy of music journalism and there's a reason so few of their writers ever become anything special outside of their tenure at the publication or as independent writers.

Damn nigga?
Wow
Anywho
Read generally any given critical review of an album from the 60s-80s and then read a Pitchfork review and it will feel like you are getting lobotomized

Giving these reviewers and platforms any importance was the biggest mistake ever
nobody forces mfs to do so though, ya know… I didn’t know who this Alphonse Pierre nigga was till months after I joined this site lol

Reviews changed when we gained more insight into how artists think and what they do daily/weekly
It affects what you think about the music

Broken clock
I've cited like seven reviews in here that suck
HHDX giving this a 4.8/10 is objectively more valid than 5.7/10 from Pitchfork even if the numeric score is closer to my feelings on the album from P4K. P4K is a joke. DX is fantastic and if they dislike the album I know it's coming from an educated and nuanced place of music criticism. That opinion is more valuable than P4K's self important crap that they publish 3/4 of the time.
100 people liked a post of someone calling you a sped and you’re still posting like one
go d***ride that nigga in someone else’s mentions lmao
It's funny to call me a sped. It'd be a hate crime to call you one
its such a dumb rebuttal to say "travis was never lyrical" when you can only grade progression once time passes, and he used to be way more coherent and clever with his writing while still being simple and catchy imo. The music he was making nearly 10 years ago seemed way more progressive and daring at the time compared to this also, not sure how people are arguing this
how does luh tyler get a 7 but travis gets a 5
Because you don't hold Luh Tyler to the same standard you would hold Travis ? What kind of question is that ?

Which is stupid because we are assessing the music, not the person behind the music unless they are making a particularly personal record
At the extreme it's like pretending Kanye was never great because he's a fascist or that R. Kelly isn't a genius because he's a serial pedophile. Bad/stupid people can be talented at stuff, Ronald Reagan got you thinking otherwise.
That first sentence was so god damn foul.
"The Norwegian pop singer’s second album never met a problem it couldn’t solve by the first chorus"
I would've stopped doing music on the spot if someone ever wrote this about my s***

I was saying this yday - he has never been this vapid on an album. Like nobody was expecting really personal deep bars but he isn't even good at doing catchy hooks or cool sounding lines on utopia. It's super empty, more than usual
Pitchfork's writing has gotten more topical but less substantive as time has passed. Now we don't have to read indulgent garbage from white losers who blew ten racks on a Master's in English literature, but instead we have a diverse cast of hipsters who substitute irrelevant non-sequitur with trivial snark
