title. they're prob the only huge platform next to Bandcamp (and maybe DjBooth?) consistently covering current underground scene ie sLUms, Mach-Hommy, shining light on street scene, giving its due diligence to mostly panned albums (A Written Testimony, Feet of Clay), providing some interesting perspectives and putting newcomers on (MIKE had his breakthrough interview with P4K before anybody knew ab him).
in a way id say they traded places with fantano in how he feels much more influential and kinda stuck in his ways while Pitchfork is constantly doing interesting s***, which is at their volume is nothing short of commendable.
plus, general rule of thumb: if Reddit hates something its probably really cool actually and considering how much they hate pitchfork well s***
No, we hate them because they are biased. Why did they give Dark Lane Demo Tapes a 6.8?
My only criticism is that they’ve definitely started letting artists personal lives affect the way they judge the music
And I’m not just talking about Kanye

because it sucked
They had this weird obsession with street rappers and authenticity in the early 10s idk if they’re still on that i dont read their s*** anymore
On some chiraqology s***
They appeal to suburban cacs
who in the entire United States of America outside of mom n pops isn't?
pitchfork is super outdated. those big staffed review sites are a thing of the past-- you can take a look at places like IGN and see just how inconsistent and useless their reviews are.
at least Fantano is one person. you already know his biases, his likes and dislikes, so you can gauge and compare to his other reviews. how many Pitchfork Great Value writers can you name and what they've written?
Fantano is living in your heads rent free

Jeff Weiss (kinda) his Supreme Clientele review is among the greatest hip-hop reviews of all time in my opinion, Sheldon Pearce (a lot of things but hes the guy that gave MUDBOY, QUARTERTHING, FOC and AWT bnms and is 100% legit for that), Meaghan Garvey (her writing on Future)
fantano is at least a good reviewer for his fanbase, as in whatever he likes people like him would like too. that kendrick type s***
i think music reviewing in general is inconsistent, p4k and fantano. there’s also something to be said about the lack of low/critical reviews that aren’t just picking at low-hanging fruit (greta van fleet, hobo johnson, etc)
