I don't have beef w fantano other than the fact that I kinda outgrew him (ie don't care for what he thinks ab modern music). twitter folk who watched 10 of his reviews and now use words 'inconsistent' 'poory mixed' and all that jazz is annoying as hell, esp when they don't just share an opinion but try to pass it as something it obviously isn't and when they s*** on pitchfork for no apparent reason

pitchfork was def overhated online for years cos it had tastemaker™ status. the hip hop writing there was actually really good for a few years from like say 2010 - 2014. but once the conde nast acquisition went through they gradually started getting worse and worse, to the point where half their news output seems to be really basic gossip and lots of their reviews are just plain bad. they still have some good contributors (shoutout al) but it's a dwindling number.

and honestly everybody covers most of the same stuff p4k does nowadays too. like a decade plus ago they were the only ones covering some bands/genres but now you got the most normie news outlets around doing black metal reviews and s***. it's over for them

now go here and see just how many different writers there are. how am I supposed to take their word on any of their opinions? I'd have to check out each person's background, their other opinions, their reviews, all that s***.

I think we just hate music journalism just like most people

Pitchfork is a good news site but a lot of the reviews are s*** and sometimes it feels like they're delving so deep they're not focusing on the music.

I prefer Fantano to most of their reviewers cos he will just focus on the music and he seems more knowledgeable about some niche genres than a lot of mainstream reviewers.

Both are still better than the UK, where most journalists don't seem to understand the scene of their own country at all
