This might be the worst review I've ever read in my f***ing life. dude namedrops like 10 small artists for hipster clout
It's dripping with pretention. I know pitchfork is contrarian on purpose because it drives engagement but reading this review gives me a headache

Alphonse gave the right score but ultimately the written review is so awful to the point where I question the angle/perspective Alphonse listened to the album from.

he apparently loves regional rap but for some reason doesnt see the "point" of a very regional sounding album about going back to his roots and celebrating his personal culture n state that is also an extension of his point in the beef while fulfilling his unity and helping hand to other CA artists/producers promise of the pop out

its always funny to read a music review where the actual music is the least important part of the review

the a***ysis of kendrick’s moral high ground being incredibly blurred was spot on

Logo_daedalus on twitter exposes Kendrick for this way better. Alphonse is just catching up

    Realest score

  • Nov 26, 2024

Good. Should’ve been lower. Album was boring as f***, worst listening experience I’ve had in a long time. I was literally groaning waiting for that s*** to be over. I have never been the biggest Kendrick fan, I like some songs and I’ll always respect a decent amt of his work but this is his most corny boring incarnation yet

the album is a 7 off the intro alone so i can’t even be bothered to read the review seeing what some of his talking points are

i know the scores are aggregated so its probably more of a testament to it being a regional specific rap record without a over arching concept

it’s the best rapper in the world rapping his ass off for 12 songs. it’s at least a 7.

I think the review makes a decent case for why it doesn’t feel that way given the context and the overall execution
    But it’s definitely harsh

if you know anything west coast you would not be saying that

its simply not the case and outsider talk

you dont have to like it but you dont have to straight up lie

aint nothin about that decent if you know the culture at all let alone lived it - which i have

I don’t disagree with the authenticity of this being a well executed west coast project, I don’t hate the album, some good songs as always
I can just see how beats on this album could feel comparatively too clean and the narrative could feel heavy handed if you’re used to listening to small regional artists. The energy is just different. My favorite parts of the album were features a lot of the time honestly. But I’m from norcal not socal, so if you’ve got a different perspective I could see it

Everything Alphonse writes makes me cringe.
