would be cool if pitchfork championed underground stuff again instead of filling their list with poptimist mainstream stuff

They’re never going back. It’s over.

Not much too say about another predictable list from a big publication tbh.

I guess the one thing is that it's kinda funny how copy & paste a lot of these EOY year lists have become with the rise of poptimism within these spaces. Like not even less then 10 years ago would it be embarrassing for websites like Pitchfork to include artists like Olivia Rodrigo or Lana in such a high position if even on the list at all. Now, it's just the new standard regardless if the music is even good or not lolll

Maybe in 2003, but by 2013 pitchfork was already full-on poptimistic. I think they were bought by Conde Naste either the year prior or the next year

They had the Polachek song on the top of 2021 iirc

I respected that bc it pmo to her

Why don’t these jackasses make a playlist as soon as they make the outdated medium they reside in, ie articles

A&W at #1 is a decent pick. I couldn't get into the album but that's a great song

yea but it still feels amplified by a bit from then and even the way audiences would react too

like i remember when they really liked hold on we’re going home in 2013 and that was controversial

now ppl wouldn’t bat an eye to a decision like that

i also think a lot of it too now is just impressions-baiting (rolling stone is more guilty of this tho)

    Not mad at #1 #2 and #10

If you even kind of keep up with music they're all recognizable names (besides Wednesday)

Nah I’ve found I get more out of going back in time vs trying to find modern artists that I enjoy. I listen to less and less modern artists every year.

There is infinite opportunity out there!! Happy for the people that still grind new artists in the current landscape I am sure it’s cool when they see them show on lists like this

If you don't try to find fresh new artists why are you surprised you recognize so few of pitchfork's top 100 songs of 2023 lol
