It rlly was so this is crazy, she barely/ if any got into any top album list now this. The disrespect she gets
It's a shame, XS definitely deserves more recognition. Top 10 song this year.
Their song lists have been terrible for a few years now - album ones are mostly aite still
@baella
What did you think of Ichiko Aoba latest album? Might be her best work.

Personally I pay no mind to random ass critics, I have cool friends that I can talk to instead, who know more music + have a doper ear for it. All those publications fall under the same umbrella and the same circle of people run/work for them. It's no coincidence that 95% of those year end lists have been almost identical every year to the point where it has already become a joke. Music tastes are diverse and vary a lot between individuals yet those publications always come up with the same offerings. Naturally, way less people care about them now compared to the mid 00's-early 2010's. If I want to check the general consensus among Internet music heads I'll just look it up on RYM, critics basically have no use anymore and a lot of their power was taken away from them now that anyone can share an opinion.
honestly that's fair, rym is infinitely more dependable than P4k in 2020 (still ass in some respects but I have some hope the site'll become better now that the average user is way younger than just 5 years ago). But still reviews are usually ass and just don't compare to professional criticism 95% of the time.
Agree that criticism has generally become somewhat stale tho, looking at that aoty.org aggregate just depresses me. Criticism has always only been dependable in some ways though and always lags behind when it comes to appreciating the real cutting edge usually. Still P4k still sometimes shows why criticism is important with their sunday reviews for example, really researching s*** and knowing your music history is not something you can get from every of your friends.
Also I think even if you only listen to your friends they probably listen to critics tho lol, or got a friend who does. There's always someone you depend on for opinions once you've been doing this music listening thing for a bit. I mean you did talk about rym I also count that. My fav critic this year was Earl tbh
Shut your d***riding stanning ass up. Imagine caping for an abuser and anti semite.

The atmosphere on Adan is unmatched, like It seems she got more creative and it worked in her benefit. Also love the chamber aspects on this, not a single bad track.

Fantano + rymcore basically what p4k was in the early to mid 00s now

nah Fantano is a rym puppet at this point, been slowly falling off for the past 2 years. He def was one of the most relevant critics in the early 10s tho, s/o to him for introducing me to GY!BE and Death Grips when I was still only listening to like Earl, Krule and Kanye back in the day, he def put me on a path with that stuff
Athems by charli xcx should of been a top 10 song that’s the only song that perfectly described how 2020 felt

Yeah RYM is far from perfect, can't rely on anything like that tbh.. gotta take it all with a grain of salt, a little info from here a little from there and you can discover what you like which is the ultimate goal imo, at least to me - music is mainly about my personal journey. At the same time I still don't want to feel "out of touch" either though.
music journalism is terrible and has been since around 2013
Honestly I feel like there's just a lot more voices and most of them are terrible, there was still always some really good stuff going on though.

Legit tbh
people ive been sad is actually a great song ill give em that
and then there's WAP P4K has changed for sure and it feels forced af. also nothing off Savage Mode 2 makes me sick

I mean yea that should be a given, critics just give recs and personal opinions they don't prescribe you medicine you need to swallow lol
