some of the best songwriters in the world. shame kim and black weren’t compatible outside of a few records. they’re geniuses on their own but they made some sublime work together
i was supposed to see them when they were playing that album in full with og line up
for the longest my favorite was bossanova bc of the surf influence (obviously big beach boys stan here so) but now i settle with trompe le monde
first album got BANGERS tho in fact levitate me might be my fav pixies chune

underrated ithaka thread
the songwriting is just so genius here. crazy that they started the “quiet/loud” dynamic so prevalent in rock in the 90’s and are still unparalleled.
such a simple bass riff becomes so much more by building it up. the first crescendo into that chorus is godly
and oh my god that bass tone
god i love these guys
2011?
when i was supposed to see them? mmm ill have to look it up it has to be around 09-11

the smooth transition from palace of the brine to letter to memphis is so smooth
two killer songs
how would you guys rank their first four albums?
im not sure if im able to do it personally. Doolittle is #1 for sure but the rest of the albums are so hard to put over eachother

1 trompe
2 bossanova
3 doolittle
4 surfer rosa
i make surf influenced music myself so anything alt rock that takes from surf is immediate for me so that’s why i rank it like that tbh lol
@EyesOnTheSmile you stan?
@vanity you would LOVE them one of weezers and radioheads biggest inspirations

they 100% birthed nirvana
steve produced their first album and that’s why kurt picked steve to produce in uteri
the whole “quiet verse vs shouting loud choruses” nirvana has going on is a method pixies invented and pushed (there’s literally a doco on them titled quiet LOUD quiet)
we’ll do some live listening all together
if you're caucasian and you go bald your options are to become either frank black or billy corgan. there is no 3rd choice

i was thinking about making an albini thread but then that old electrical audio post started making the rounds again where he talks about odd future and drops multiple hard r's
