Not sure what mine would be. I always really liked “She’s Leaving Home”, “I’m Only Sleeping”, “Here Comes the Sun” and “Yellow Submarine” (no idea why so many Beatles fans hate this song when it just sounds like a Beatles song).

now that’s a first, someone namedropping yellow submarine as his fav!

fun fact in a selection of songs frank black said he wish he wrote he picked savoy truffle when it came to beatles (and also a saints song, to go back to kurts list!)

I always liked this version more than the Beatles one but it is a more thrilling, dramatic rendition.

between savoy and wild honey, frank sure loves that white album! he mentioned how it inspired doolittle:

just found out the pixies are the reason noel named his song champagne supernova by mishearing bossanova

When I was writing that, I remember going to visit Meg, who was living with some chicks down in Maida Vale, in her old flat. I was living in a hotel in Marylebone High Street and had just been kicked out of my flat in Chiswick, for being drunk and disorderly. Anyway, I went over to Meg´s. I wasn't seeing her, she was just a mate and, this may sound really corny but I had the music and melody for the song in my head but I didn't have any words. While I was around there we were listening to a Pixies album called, I think it's... Supernova. As we were listening to this album, we were watching a documentary about where they make Champagne in France. You may laugh but it's true. I was there drunk going, "Champagne supernova? Yeah man" and to this day, everyone’s going, "But what does it mean?". I can't be arsed to explain it cos it sounds really corny. Some of the lyrics were written when I was out of it. There’s the words: "Someday you will find me caught beneath a landslide in a champagne supernova in the sky.""

    dam that’s extremely real

Did you ever get into any of Albini’s bands? I would definitely recommend the one he’s presently in, Shellac. They’ve been around since the early 90’s and literally only tour or release music when they feel like it. Try out Dude Incredible, their most recent album.

Another band who are sort of similar to them (and whose third and fourth albums were actually recorded by Albini) who I like even more are Oxbow, the band whose sophomore album I made my avi. They’ve been around since the late 80’s and also release and perform music only when they feel like it (there was a decade gap between their most recent album and the one before it). Pretty out there but there aren’t really any other rock bands making music like them as far as I can tell. I’d also definitely try their most recent album, Thin Black Duke.

Probably my favorite off Bossanova, although I really like ‘Is She Weird’ too. There’s not a single skip on any of those albums though
