People in the pinball scene hype it the f*** up. I want to go so bad
They have something like it here in Michigan I think or may be it's in Chicago idk a friend of mine went though. We do have pinball land & one well brewery/wizards i been meaning to check out
Yeah after doing Tokyo a week, wish I did Kyoto rather than Osaka afterward. The brief time I spent in Kyoto felt more laidback & traditional
Yeah Kyoto was a little more my speed as well. Tokyo/Kanto region is dope for sure but can be a little overwhelming at times
Walk around in Akihabara and walk into any and everything -- even if you're not into video games or anime. Just massive culture shock.
Kamakura/Enoshima as a day trip. End at the shore in Enoshima at sunset for one of the most gorgeous views you'll ever see in your life. Damn near brought me to tears.
Mensho San Francisco is a cheap Michelin star ramen joint located inside a mall/department store. I believe it's in Shibuya. I recommend it.
Eat as much raw fish as possible. Don't go to the fish market, it's not good anymore.
GO TO HAKONE AND HIT A HOT SPRING, TRUST ME. Especially if it's cold. It's about 1.5 hours from Tokyo. You MUST do this. I recommend doing the Hakone Round Course (you do a pirate ship thing across their lake then take a zipline cart to the top of a volcano. It's nuts. Eat soft serve ice cream there). The Round Course will drop you off approximately 5 minutes from the Tenzan Hot Spring (one I went to). It was snowing while I went and it was just insane. They have a lot of different hot springs there (that'd what they're known for) so I would look online and find one that makes sense for you.
Eat everything that you've never had before that looks even a little interesting. I had raw horse. It was good as f***.
Don't overdo it on the shrines. Just hit 1 big one imo. Same goes for museums. Kind of a waste to do more than one.
Golden Gai is a great spot to go drinking. You'll meet a lot of foreigners AND locals there.

Mt Fuji day trip I'd do some research on. Either way I'd fit Hakone into one of your free days. It's too incredible to miss. 1 week for Tokyo is a REALLY tight squeeze but do what makes sense for you, obviously. If you're gonna do a day trip to Mt Fuji, there's an amusement park that houses an Evangelion museum, a Naruto place, and one of the fastest rollercoasters in the world (it's f***ing crazy) called Fuji Q. It's near Mt Fuji (you can see it clearly from there). You'll need to take a bus to get there (just look into it, it's simple). It's a fun experience to be there and seeing their Christmas lights and s***.
I did New Years in Golden Gai. It was really fun. Tons of people. Talk to the locals. Drink at the smallest bars you'll ever see. Celebrate New Years with the bar girls. It's fun. If you want to go clubbing that night I'd look in advance.
On New Years Day I would go to one of the big shrines in Tokyo. I did Meiji Shrine. Go in the morning. It's beautiful and it will be sorta crowded that day since a lot of people go that day (they call that morning trip Hatsumode) but it's a cool experience. If you want to do the more traditional shrine stuff while you're there I'd Google in advance so you don't feel like an idiot lol.
