people were hyping a Whole Lotta Red that was discussed in June 2019; RIP Yams, Bouldercrest, Molly etc. Stuff that was pretty easy to get into, still kinda different but close enough to be CARTI.

This Whole Lotta Red is completely different from that and you could argue people have had their opinions altered by these expectations.

That isn't to say this makes the album better or worse. There is plenty of total garbage on this. But the backlash wouldn't be as strong if people didn't feel like they had been baited and switched.

All this is to say, hyping about music is stupid and is never worth your time and effort
