Most them rappers didnt succeed in jacking another rapoer (Uno) style and had to be original just to be called “white hipster music”

Let’s be real , you don’t listen to Uno and you just heard someone say this and are parroting it.

    Especially people from Atlanta lmao

the sound of hip hop* definitely shifted after WLR that’s what groundbreaking means basically

    Not necessarily tbh

Influence and innovation/breaking new ground are separate things

    WLR had influence for sure

But it’s just another trap variant, it’s not really some mind blowing experimentation or boundary pushing going on lol it’s just Future/Thug music but slightly more abrasive sounding. Lowkey X had already done that part too

Yeah bro BNYX never heard a jazz album lol. You know more about music than him

Comparing Carti to Jazz shows zero understanding of jazz

Like dude must’ve forgot the political aspects of jazz and the actual meaning and ethos stick to the surface level punk comparison

But s***, even the snot nosed punk kids had more to say and more substance behind their direction than Carti.

i don’t even know why you bother lmao, these niggas are just delusional

even went over this exact topic in a previous thread where i pointed out SGP already had the VAMP aesthetic and was already making trap with weird delivery on it w/ his vocals

F1THY even said he took influence from SGP, it just doesn’t matter, it has to be new and groundbreaking so they can fully invest into Carti as this enigmatic artist (while s***ting on other artists who actually are full on experimental)

You’re so right about that “fully invest” thing, it’s a weird phenomenon, that’s why I think so much of the “buy in” on Carti from some people is based more on presentation than the music

To this day, SGP’s projects from over a decade ago are weirder and more original than Carti’s s***.

Lowkey I don’t think some of the carti fans have heard future’s whole catalog either because most of the s*** Carti has done with his voice, Future or Thug did it at some point

it’s either they don’t know music or they’re just d***riding, tbh it just seems like to me people can’t accept that something can be good (or even influential) without being groundbreaking or experimental

I think Carti himself is great.

His influence? Mmmm not so much.

    His clones type 🗑️

Then you should know that in 2020 uno was making futsal shuffle clones and making songs with YBN nahmir and Travis barker. While Carti made WLR

This is Uno s*** after WLR dropped

We could really go on and on with artists who already did this s*** it’s crazy

I think it gives them a feeling of superiority as a listener or something, sometimes I lowkey think it’s just trying to separate Carti as “not like those other rappers” so they can listen to modern bangers while telling themselves it’s super innovative and punk

it’s like having your cake and eating it too. A more “respectable” “artistic” version of Future Thug Keef but also a much “safer” “cooler” pick than Jpegmafia or Danny Brown

I know this isn’t all his fans but there’s definitely a good chunk like this. And most of them don’t know music at all. I’ve seen it first hand, went to school with someone who had WLR and TPAB as the only rap albums they liked it’s a real thing

”A more “respectable” “artistic” version of Future Thug Keef but also a much “safer” “cooler” pick than Jpegmafia or Danny Brown”
    yup! a perfect middle ground

honestly it’s borderline thread worthy but it’d most likely get memed out of the building since he’s a darling on here

it’s pretty upsetting that the only way to escape the “white hipster music” allegations is primarily aesthetic and not deviating too rashly from an established sound, but that’s where we’re at lmao

You guys can’t cope with people liking an artist you don’t so you come up with all these theories to rationalize why others feel the way they feel about it instead of just admitting it isn’t for you lol

  • Nov 5, 2023

Speaking on Carti alot of his clones are really young so they might still develop into great artists

haven't really seen any that are even 24 - 25

I’ll have your back. There’s definitely something worth discussing here. But it is difficult to have these discussions because they’ll just say things like “the music is better” and hide behind subjectivity

It’s something I think about a lot, how perception of an artist effects music opinions

I’m interested to hear what this “chaotic cave music” sounds like because if it still has the same drum patterns then

In before this is more smoke and mirrors to make his music seem deeper than it is and people eat it up
