she had accepted that "she was worthless" and never challenged her family in 25 years. they all have some kind of munchausen f***ed up syndrome, they cut her wings to get her to stay mediocre and close. alcoholic family the only way she managed to get away is to follow me to Paris

i'd say she is not in that state 1/3 of the time, I feel like I can save her. It's not her fault, she had insane defense mechanisms

Ultimately, the bottom line is: do whatever it is you need to do, in a finite way, to get the guilt off your back (medical appointment, job help, whatever it is) and then end that s***. It is always better to end something and be in control of that situation, than to just wait until it blows up years later

Okay but how is this your problem? I'm not tryna sound like a d*** to you, but if you allow her to use you as some sort of emotional crutch without letting her actually take action to confront her feelings, then she'll keep on taking them out on you instead of seeking help. You can't save her. She needs professional help.

can't dump her because I'm in the middle of teaching her programming so that she can get a job and she needs me to pay for a really important dental appointment next month (I know but I can't just let her not get it, it would affect her quality of life forever if she misses it)

Yes but be careful of neglecting your own mental health in the name of accommodating her. I feel like that's what's happening here. Her having problems that she needs to deal with is not an excuse for her to toss you around like trash.

Just lay it down real gentle, on some, "hey listen, I'm with you on this journey, just as long as you promise that these outbursts are something you'll work through and not something I have to put up with every time" and make sure she understands that you're willing to walk away over this. You don't owe her anything.
