Lines like this go back to an old thread @user said bout the backpackers conforming to the tough talk slowly but surely ngl

MIKE is from the Bronx in New York City gang He is not and never has been a backpacker nor has he since 2019 at least been the kind of guy to never tough talk and even if he was there’s nothing to suggest it’s not just a bag he hasn’t touched on much.

Monotone rapping itself isnt what im talkin bout.

Moreso the type of song structure for example lot of these folks really just do not write a chorus lol. It’s cool if like 1 or 2 or 3 of em do it but when its every new type of rapper with the same kinda “type” production? Yeah, it starts veering into unoriginality.

I dont put lucki and veeze into that category cause that whole production is different

Imo a certain scene having less pop structure is fine tho who r u talking ab tho cuz sideshow and niontay make p dif music from each other both feed off very regional influences im jus tryna think who this applies to cuz I assume u mean surf gang affiliates

It’s interesting that prior to sick releasing, he said he scrapped an album because he didn’t want to “slam 19 loops down niggas throats” (I’m paraphrasing), What would make the surf gang production across 18 tracks differ in that regard? 🤔

where did he say that basically every song on sick! is a loop so idk what he's even saying there. i thought he scrapped The People Could Fly album cus he said it sounded too much like a political campaign or something and cus of covid

  • insertcoolnamehere

And when they do lazily slap a chorus together it sounds exactly like the verse. The monotony is structural

He said it in this interview

“I didn’t want to slam 17 loops down niggas throats and be mad when niggas don’t want to listen to some super dense s***. I really want to cover all the ground, be dexterous, and nerd out on this rap s*** by finding the best of every style.”

wow that's interesting, honestly it worked out for the best i love sick and he kinda circled back to that with voir doir so we got the best of both worlds. i think i remember reading some songs from the scrapped album were repurposed like tabula rasa and my brother the wind (?)

happy to see there's Earl co-prod at least on 5 tracks too, and Anysia track is one of them

Harrison is brilliant for sure and I did notice he's often behind standout SG tracks. I think this is the first time since the John Glacier tape that I see him dominating the credits like that. it is a fav, but that was a short EP and this is a long album.

no reason to doubt him but it'll be interesting to see how he handles it.

Weird they haven’t dropped a preorder but I can’t see them dropping without vinyl. They eat too good on vinyl sales.
