We need drake and Kanye to release
total o-rod takeover
"I Love It"
Like I just said
Damn. I almost forgot about it. That was so embarrasing to watch.
Wouldn't call it "taking over."
It's more so like the Blog Era where Pop was big on the charts but Hip Hop was still huge and influencing the cultural landscape.
Tyler got a number 1 album without a smash hit which goes to show that rap's popularity is less dependent on radio.
And that rappers don't have hits anymore. Not even the big ones. I can only think about that Polo G track and Cardi's WAP.
Drake will obviously change that. But I don't think a surprise release would give him huge hits, so he better restart the album rollout.
DOES IT LOOK LIKE I CARE
Nigga its hiphop all day over here
Put that on kool herc.
Great post
O'Rod should have pushed Jealousy Jealousy. I don't see Traitor blowing up like that. We will see.

True but I don't even think rappers need hits too much. Carti's hype was so strong he got a number 1 album without a radio hit. Rappers can gain and maintain fanbases without constantly churning out hits.
I also think the death of many rappers who had crossover potential like XXX, Juice, Pop Smoke, etc. comes to play as well in terms of rap on the radio.

I like hits, so the current state of rap is mad boring to me. It sucks Pop got killed and Juice died. XXX was dope too.

Obviously. But that song and the f***ery he was doing was just so embarrasing to follow imo.
Like I said, I don't even see him having hits anymore. At least on his albums.

its a lost cause

Aside from 2002-2005 and 2015-2018, rap was never that oversaturated on the radio. This is a very normal process.
Even in the 90's, many classic rap albums didn't have top 5 or top 10 hits(See: Illmatic, The Infamous, IDAHIH, 2001, Death Certificate, etc.)
Rap not being oversaturated on the radio doesn't mean jack in the grand scheme of things.
Edit: And everyone here loves the "Blog Era" but that was specifically the era where Pop and EDM totally dominated the radio which is further proof that Rap can be in a great place without dominating the radio too much.

im talking from 2016 till now. the streaming era which rap dominated supposedly
It's been a minute. Imagine if Billie and Lorde had dropped good albums.
They could have literally ran the year on some O Rod s*** if they just put out decent albums.

Carried by Drake tbh and that was also when Rock/EDM really declined in the mainstream.
one rap song in the top 10
Yeah, sure, Kanye saving Hip Hop in 2021
Maybe Travis or Lil Baby
lmao
pop is still cool tho
im bout to be on my benny blanco s***
