yea first time i heard her voice i fell in love
perfect music tbh
tbh 90's music feels peak experimental music imo.
dummy imo is def in the tier of thriller/dark side of the moon/mbdtf etc.
The album flows so well, not a single misused moment, brilliant songwriting and the instrumentals speak for themself.
for sure
tbh 90's music feels peak experimental music imo.
i’m really interested in the experimental right now, it speaks more true to my tastes
but i know what you mean by 90s being the peak. i think it’s honestly the peak between popular music snd experimentation.
the difference is that the 90s looked forward, but rn we’re at such new heights with technology, that we’re doing all the things these 90’s bands put forward.
i didn’t really “respect” the hyperpop label until ag cook refuted the popular notion that its “the future” when he claimed it be much more like “embracing modernity”
i feel like what the most popular “experimental” music in the 90s like portishead, radiohead, aphex twin, björk, was showing music COULD be, is finally being accepted as what music really is in the current moment.
idk if that makes sense
trip hop is very much of its time
more albums than not in the genre are, but dummy and mezzanine truly feel ahead of its time still imo
They really did “Classic Bond theme” level music so well too
that performance is goat.

yup basically summed it up. many 90's acts were breaking new ground and setting the foundation tbh. now it's much easier to explore different sounds for an artist cause of technology and past inspiration.
From Bjork, Massive Attack, Radiohead, portishead, aphex twin, I even include Sonic youth even thought they started in the 80's.
Cibbo matto, Flaming Lips and etc.
Third
They inspired so many artists including Kanye, Lana, Schoolboy Q, Weeknd, and not just cuz they sampled them. You can hear their sound originating from Portishead
S*** ive had portishead on the backlog for years and never gotten around to it i need some convincin lol
