on my first listen rn, def enjoy the jazzy sound of Dove much more on relisten, it has some actual jazzy edge to it which makes it more than just lo-fi beats, but also ngl still think it has those kinda vibes a bit and throws me off a bit
Damn, pretty disappointed with this off first listen at least.
Mainly cause of the production. Nothing comes close to Baking Soda. The rest just sound so unimaginative. Same formula - make a mildly decent loop and slap some drums on it. And the drums aren't even well selected imo, just busy, distracting and repetitive. Got exhausting very quickly.
And, nowhere near the same emotional weight, cohesiveness and atmosphere as LTST. That had you gripped and transported away straight off the intro.
Could have done with some features too.
with you that at least on first listen it doesn't rly seem to have the emotional weight or atmosphere of LTST (or EOTE imo)
I do think there's lots of detail to the production which makes it a bit more than just generic, it is definitely a quality release but also think I was def hoping for more from Mavi

Just not doing anything for me. Second listen this morning and I was bored as hell. The two Jacob Rochester beats are nice, 3 Left Feet and The Inconvenient Truth, but they're jammed between all these other tracks that sound so similar that the whole thing just becomes a blur. Baking Soda is really the only truly distinctive track on here.
Only 38 minutes but felt like an hour. Just not a well-crafted album imo. Mavi's going off on plenty of tracks but I'm so bored by the production I can barely be bothered to concentrate.
So many of these are just middle of the road beats to me. There's no synthesis between them and Mavi's verses. The intended emotion just isn't coming through.
Don't think I have any interest in going for a third listen for at least a fair few days.
Thank u for putting me on I’ve never heard about him but I’ll peep now
rice + gravy is a good starting point but he's so consistent so u could rly listen to most things he's done

I have some hope that maybe this could be a House is Burning type album which just has a very chill and lush production coupled with good rapping, but also that just definitely sounded more fresh and .. interesting.
I mean I appreciate that he crafted a distinct sound with his producers but agree it becomes too samey and blurs together. maybe on repeat listens that could be a good thing but yea. also agree that it often seems like's no real synthesis with the rapping.
not writing it off for now bc every Mavi project has been a sneak grower for me but yea def feeling what you're saying
Gonna bump this and see if it’s hittin me
I did enjoy Let The Sun Talk but haven’t been listening to much of this kinda rap in a while

F*** u NZ i will listen in the morning
bro dissed the kiwis off a feeling 😭😭😭
I understand the people like gritty samples and drums, but I’m not mad he took this approach. The lyrics are still raw, and some of these beats are beautiful.
first four tracks incredible
