my whole thing with his comments about hip hop being like vapid or whatever was always that (especially now in retrospect), the biggest rappers at the time of the comments were Drake, Kendrick, Cole and Kanye, who you could argue their appeal was always how relatable and vulnerable they were in their music. like it was obvious how detached he was from hip hop
And yet you instantly forgot it because how do you read that then go and say he's positioning hiphop ONLY as fun music...
What is this saying to you dummy?
“If you’re looking for lyrics, if you’re looking to cry, if you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop,” he said. “There’s great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they spit that real s***, but right now, there’s not a lot of people talking about s***.
“Whenever I want to cry,” he continued, “whenever I want to sit down and have a nice cry, I’ll listen to some Bob Dylan. But whenever I’m trying to have a good time and stay in a positive mood, I listen to hip-hop because it’s fun. I think hip-hop is important because it brings people together in a beautiful, happy way. Everybody’s happy.”
Too bad he decided to go for the soulless music he has been doing for a while now cuz hes actually talented
oh well

It sounds like he said this dumb meme out loud, and instead of calling it corny you started tearing up and typing out think pieces

Great he found acceptance in the Country genre. And he left Hiphop at a great time
