im not good at teaching so yeah lol

i think it all depends on how quickly you take to the basics (im sure there are YT vids breaking them down). you could see some noticeable growth in a year or 2 of regular practice like most things but it's really something you have to keep at. i've seen people make some big leaps in a short period of time because they just didn't stop drawing.

i dont know where to start learning exactly but sketching nearby objects and people is good practice on capturing form and perspective in one go. also anatomy books are always nice references to have around

Same length of time as any skill. As many hours as you want to put in it. If you do deliberate practice it gets faster.

I didn't use Youtube, so its hard for me to say. I jumped from resource to resource and topic to topic rather than following a steady curriculum, which may have stunted my progress.

While there are a lot of guides, some more reputable than others, most of them are going to be sufficient enough for you to start with as a beginner with little to no knowledge, and you'll find out who's approaches and study methods work best for you as you study more.

As far as anatomy goes, I think it'd be a good idea to start off with figure/gesture drawing to get an overall feel of the human form from head to toe, then taking a deeper dive into anatomy afterwards.

Anatomy (full guides for deep dives into anatomy are super hard to find for free on YT. Many of them are paywalled on their own websites. I would suggest using books for this topic, that you can flip through and reference at any time easier than videos)

Keep in mind, you'll find yourself using a lot of supplementary material to get a deeper understanding of things. Listening is important, but you'll learn most by applying.

WIP of establishing shot for the third page of my comic. Went through quite a few drafts before landing on this one and I’ve learned a lot in the process. For my first time working on a background like this… I’m kinda happy with how it’s coming together.

Thank you dude. I'll keep this thread updated with my WIPs and final drafts of pages.

I wouldn't recommend digital tools when learning to draw for the first time. Modern technology can imitate the traditional drawing feel pretty well, but will never be the exact same. Plus you'll be burdened with learning the program and all its tools, shortcuts and tricks to get xyz effect, and so on, before learning how to do things the straight and narrow way first. Before dropping that type of money, prove to yourself that you're serious about it by getting your fundamentals straight with pencil and paper for the first 6-12 months, and then revisit the idea.

Maybe you'll decide you prefer working with traditional media. I've always admired the ability and skillset of artists to make work of this caliber on with just pens and paper, but alas, I drifted to digital myself. (artist - omardogan1976)

big fan of Omar Dogan, bought all his physical releases. Man is just next level with it.
