I really hope this project lights a fire under his ass because Drake can really rap but definitely starting to getting a bit of fatigue of just rapping to rap without really anything of substance coming along with it. I’ll always love that as a true hip hop lover but I just think back to say like 4pm in Calabasas my jaw literally dropped because not only was he spitting he was actually TALKING on there like yall niggas not about to play me. I need that energy if he’s going to be talking greasy

    You didn’t like 100 gigs n wdim?

i just want yall to be honest with yourselves

WDIM was a good single forreal. I really thought it was in the spirit of some of his older singles like STFB and Headlines. Like I’ll say for example of what I’m talking about is 8AM in Charolette. You think of the other 5 in the series it felt like it was a statement. I really can’t remember anything he said on there but obviously was a good rapping record in a vacuum

My dawg Drake just went through a 20v1. The paranoid raps have actually aged greatly and actually made me see his discog in a better light. I though this nigga was tripping when he said the industry was against him until I saw it happen live

I fw Cole almost as long as I have with Drake so I ain't got anything against him but anyone saying he can outrap or is better than Drake or Kendrick is lying on their momma. Nigga had his one moment to prove it on wax and he turned p****. Objectively he'll always be #3 now unless he ever finds the courage to step up again

i felt like he showed flashes on SH3. he still can do it, he just gotta commit to it.

There’s so many stories to tell right now at his disposal

I agree. He took a rap-forward approach and I think it produced a lot of good songs which also ironically was driven based off of people calling his raps out lol

i’d like you to elaborate on the lyrical content part before i really respond

there’s other abilities that factor into being the best overall rapper but if we talking just the art of emceeing, Cole got that

if we talking just the art of emceeing, Cole got that

Absolutely, and I'll give Cole that over Drake and Kendrick

Before I start I'm not downplaying his music in any way, it's just how he interacts with the world around him. Cole's content is damn near inspirational/aspiration music, and he straight meat and potatoes with it. We not getting philosophy and theory from Cole, he more get up and get it. More recently we've been getting the freestyles and MDL which were like exercises for Cole, while his storytelling content has been mainly based in family and Fayetteville. He's singly separated from his college days while retaining that base

My order for the 3 always been Drake, Kendrick, Cole. Drake and Kendrick a step away from a Holy War lol

there’s nothing wrong with enjoying that but its been a decade of him talking about it. if you arent tired of it fine but dont try to hold that against another artist for the same exact reason

most rappers are gonna do that. they’re gonna share their stories from where they’re from and who they grew up with. thats customary and primarily, all of the big 3 are known for it

@NoFace is a drake Stan. Why are you making subliminal posts about him instead of directly responding to his logical argument?

Theres more to rapping than beef songs. Especially when rap beefs are more about social media narratives than lyricism. We have enough features, songs, and albums to determine who’s a better rapper and Cole has clearly been better imo than Kendrick ever since Mr morale. Specifically Lyrically , I think he’s way better too

True. I’ll argue tho that Drake finds a way to make it more refreshing even when he raps about the same topics whether its beat switches, production, or features

yeah you didnt say that, you said Cole has been telling the same stories for years and i rebutted with a valid take

but i see your feelings are hurt so i’ll let you live

thats fair. he def does experiment more than Cole production wise and he does have the ability to sing on top of that

That wasn't subliminal and you worried about that more than the content. You can't disagree with that statement. It was factual. No rebuttal possible whether I tag someone or not they have no chance at continuing debate. We could enjoy the Fall Off but let's call it how it is no glazing

I think a lot of my personal gripe and probably a general sentiment comes from his reluctance to come out of the monotone philosophy he takes now. Like listening to this the way he has his voice bouncing and putting inflections on words creates such an interesting listening experience and makes you want to come back to it

Cole’s pen is easily #1 right now, but he’s not the best song maker, in my opinion. Not sure if the distinction matters.

You & the 6 is one of my favorites because of how he recorded that first verse and it sounds like a convo rather than a verse

like the stopping of the sentences, slight stuttering, even the kissing of the teeth, like all that gave off elements of a real convo packaged into a verse
