Not doubting your points either. He’s not the first to do it… but he might be the best to do it… I think that’s the key distinction there. I mean, he didn’t win a Pulitzer for nothing.
I’m all for trolling Kendrick. Do I think he went the corny route with MTG and the whole predator angle during the beef. Yeah and it aged pretty horribly lol. But, as much as I love family matters, the same could be said for drake with the domestic violence stuff.

I think it’s the Nas fan in me that finds what Kendrick does to be uninnovative outside of the concepts. Not even counting Illmatic, Nas has rapped about these serious topics skillfully on The Lost Tapes n Life is Good. And Cole took the Nas + Kanye influence but added even more relatability on the warm up n Friday Night Lights .
Again I acknowledge the influence he has with highlighting concepts but after gkmc I felt like he started overdoing it. There’s a reason there wasn’t a resurgence of jazz rap after tpab or people rapping about the plight of black Israelites after damn. Contrast that with YG releasing My Krazy Life after gkmc. I think musical influence is pretty obvious to track and we don’t have to reach to give Kendrick credit he doesn’t deserve just cuz the industry loves him

fair point I don’t think he cared about it. Idk what triggered him to jump out the window on Like That, but I don’t believe he recorded that verse with the intention of a back and forth. I think he thought it’d be the usual subliminals still. When Drake dropped Taylor Made, I think that’s when Kendrick was like oh I’m getting this nigga out of here by any means necessary and here we are today.

I see your points. I mean when you think about all the guys that we are talking about, Nas, Kendrick, Drake, etc. all of them didn’t make it to where they are by accident. So in the context of Nas and Kendrick I see both sides of the coin there and the argument kinda feels like we are splitting hairs. At a minimum, Kendrick picked up the torch and blazed new paths with it for the new generation though. There’s no denying that.
Drake took the torch and has put together an unprecedented run that will most likely never be replicated in hip hop.

Any other rapper this happens to, I think their career is truly done. Drake is just 1 of 1. If this had been Cole that Kendrick disses at the Super Bowl and had Lucian and Dre celebrating NLU, they are done. S*** is really crazy when you look at the big picture without your stan glasses.
