Only difference being Graduation was immediately embraced as one of the biggest albums of all time. Every single song (except D&HG obviously) played on the radio nonstop for like a year. Stronger and Good Life were inescapable. Not to mention it was instantly incomparable to any of Ye's albums, or really any album ever made before. Not to mention the music videos.

I love Views, but it objectively didn't have the same influence or break the mold in Drizzy's repertoire the same way at all. Lastly, I just take issue with the phrase "the Graduation treatment" because it's revisionist history— it really was a uniquely instant classic that everybody was listening to when it dropped.

    Sorry for the essay

no way you're downplaying Views when it comes to hits lmao. thats the route you chose?

Is this his most hyped album since Views? Gotta be right?

not even close, More Life & Scorpion had more hype from the hit singles alone, and CLB had more hype without any singles because all the ICEMAN singles have been cheeks

i’ll give you DLDT & everything since HNvm though

The correct Drizzy parallel to Graduation is Scorpion

Massive album with undeniably huge hits, but OG fans will always go back to the projects that had a special place in their hearts

    Take Care for Drake
    College Dropout for Ye

  • Also while Graduation always had mainstream appeal, it has to be said that streaming opened up Ye’s catalog to even more people around the world, and it’s easily his most accessible album

CD and LR are much slower and specific to hip-hop

was thinking Scorpion as well but i don’t think it has an equivalent in Kanye’s discog because of its double-disc nature

More Life works better with Grad imo — hit singles, some misses, sales competition (maybe just on the fans side of it) with DAMN., etc
